Miscommunication and its Causes
Miscommunication occurs almost on a daily basis due to poor communication skills and misunderstanding. Am experiencing miscommunications when I engage in different things while communicating for instance when I am drafting an email while listening to music. I have also found myself experiencing miscommunications when I engage in too much talking and doing less listening. Sometimes am being too fast to interpret the information sent to me even when the information is not clear thereby making a wrong interpretation where I have ended up encountering miscommunication. At times when am stressed up, I have found myself passing the incorrect information.
Causes of Miscommunication
I can attribute the miscommunication occurrence to the divided attention (lack of concentration) whereby am multi-tasking by engaging in a task and communicating at the same time. Misunderstanding is also playing a significant part in my experience with miscommunication where I am misinterpreting information since am being reluctant to seek for clarification. Poor listening skills have also contributed to my miscommunications encounter as am finding myself talking too much with minimal listening, thereby am not giving the person were are conversing with time to explain their point. My role in the miscommunication is the failure to capture the correct or actual information being passed to me correctly thereby giving the wrong information in return and engaging in wrong interpretations.
Improving Communication Skills
I need to improve my listening skills by talking when it is necessary and allowing the opponent to express their point accordingly during a conversation. I also need to always seek for clarification in case information passed to me for action is not clear to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation. The other crucial aspect I need to adopt is focusing on the communication only by avoiding distractions when passing or receiving information. Improving my communication techniques by presenting information clearly without using too many words will help combat the miscommunication. Paying attention to important details when passing on, receiving, and interpreting information will also help in reducing miscommunication.
