Whole Foods- a case study

Every organization needs a strategic communications plan because of its many benefits to the entity. First of all, a strategic communication strategy in an organization creates a consistent framework for interactions between staff, managers, and other stakeholders (Frost, 2016). The organization is likely to avoid instances of misinformation and confusion if a team has a communication plan for sending all memos or emails. Second, strategic communication planning help a corporation project a positive image (Frost, 2016). This is due to the fact that businesses with strategic communication plans have standardized methods of informing the public, as opposed to businesses without such strategies, whose personnel may spread improper information. Thus, coordinated communication strategy portrays a company as a team which is well organized. Strategic communication plans also ensure that the right person delivers the correct information to the right audience (Frost, 2016). Finally, strategic communication approach builds the morale of employees. Sharing information with workers initiates in them a feeling of belonging increasing their confidence and self-drive.

Corporate leaders should not have the right to share their opinions regarding controversial issues even if the view has the potential impact on the stakeholders because of several reasons. Corporate leader’s opinion may shift away or increase customers from their usual brand to a different one because the public usually links the views of the leader to the company. Thus, such opinions may have a significant impact on customer purchase decisions. Additionally, a corporate entails a group of people with a common goal and leaders should raise their concerns only at the organizational level so that their opinion can be considered instead of making their views known by the public. Corporate leaders should just stay silent and monitor the situation because speaking it up creates more controversies and damages the brand of the organization. Therefore, corporate leaders should be denied to share these controversial views so that they can only focus on their core competencies.

Whole media response to the controversial statement of Mackey was effective and provided on the right medium. According to the reaction, the company acknowledges their consumers and shareholders for reporting the issues regarding Mackey’s arguments. Acknowledging the consumers and shareholders efforts is polite, and it shows the company’s concern for its stakeholder’s feelings about the issue. Away from the negative, the whole food company also states their offers to reduce the tension of the topic at hand, and this technique draws the attention of the readers. Notably, the company recognizes and appreciates Johns view rather than taking a stand. The response explains Mackey’s opinion to its audience and states that there are many opinions regarding the issue and they are working to sort the issue. The explanation the company gives is essential because some people may have gotten the wrong information regarding the statement of Mackey. The medium that was used is Facebook which has a variety of users and enables quick transmission of information to a large population. Finally, the company gives the public hope that they are working as a team to sort these issues. Therefore, I think that the Whole Food company response towards the issue is useful since it is liberal, courteous and appreciative and I see no need of changing anything.

The world is changing drastically with the digital environment making the globe a village world where information is transmitted rapidly. The digital environment has created a variety of social sites that people use for sharing information like facebook, Twitter, Skype and many others to mention a few. For instance, Mackey posted his stance on face book, and the site has several numbers of users who were able to view the post and report back to the Whole Food Company. Facebook allows corporate to create groups where they can easily interact with their clients and shareholders, and this is why the company was able to get the feedback from the public regarding the issue. Hence, digital environment has provided mediums for quick transmission of information.
