The Bombay Circus

The Bombay Circus Experience

The Bombay circus had been running its show for the last month in our city. The show had been attracting many crowds and most of the children in our class had attended the show. Every kid who had attended the show in school talked about how spectacular it had been. They spoke about the feats of tamed wild animals and the daring exploits of the performers. My parents had promised to take me to the show on the last Saturday of the month and I had been anxiously anticipating for the day. I was so excited at the thought of going to the circus because most of the kids at our school had already attended and it had also been the talk of the school since it began. Finally, I would have something to share when the other kids talked about the fast-paced and magical spectacle, the poodle acts with the little dogs that had so many tricks, the clowns, and the human acrobatic arts.

An Evening at the Circus

When the day finally came, we arrived at 5:30 p.m. We bought our tickets, and despite the significant rush, we were already seated by 5:45 p.m. in the big tent. The tent was adorned with colorful lights and the seating arrangement was spectacular and it looked like wonderland. The show began at 6:00 p.m. when the band started to play. The first act comprised of a group of girls and boys who came on stage and welcomed all the visitors to the circus. Three clowns then followed in their funny attire and performed some acts with unicycles. They had hats with feathers and long noses just like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. They made all of us laugh with the numerous tricks they had up their sleeves. The jokes made left the crowd in stitches and the funny way they performed their feats amused everyone. The clowns were on stage for almost an hour. They rode around the tent as they blew loud funny horns and performed tricks on the unicycles. Next they were followed by trapeze artists who walked above us along very thin and tiny wire. We all held our breath as we watched them balance themselves. Surprisingly, they did not look scared. My dad brought us cotton candy and peanuts as we continued to enjoy the show.

Spectacular Performances

Next, riders came with white horses and they were riding them sideways and I wished I could ride like them. After they were done six riders were left on the stage. The horses started doing a circular dance to the accompaniment of the band. The horses started running faster and the riders began to jump from one horse to another. As the horses continued to gallop, the riders began to stand upright on the horses which made it a remarkable show. There were many acrobats who performed feats that were breathtaking to say the least. They turned and twisted their bodies in different ways and I was amazed wondering whether their bodies were made of rubber or flesh. Everybody applauded their body movements. Next there was a girl who crossed a fiery circle and the feat made my hair stand but surprisingly she was not harmed. The next act was performed by gymnasts who showed their exploits on horizontal bars. Their performance included jumping skillfully from one bar to the other. The next act comprised of cyclists who presented valiant and dangerous exploits on their motorcycles. They also ran their bikes in a deep well at the same time. The acts left the spectators spellbound. A young man then followed and he kept dancing on a rope while maintaining balance up in the air. A lady with an umbrella then joined him and walked from one end of the line to the other. Everyone clapped after she was done.

Unforgettable Animal Performances

There were also animals such as lions, elephants, tigers and monkeys that performed different feats. The monkeys were riding unicycles. My most favorite feat by the animals was when a big black bear drove a motorcycle. The elephants could also play football and their leader even saluted the audience! Additionally, they rolled a wood log forward and backwards. Later a man came in with a whip and three lions followed him. He portrayed great expertise by commanding the lions to drink from a basin. A goat was brought in and drank from the same basin and the lions did not eat him! We were all astounded by the sight. The circus also had a hippopotamus and chimpanzee just like in the books. A few different breeds of dogs came in and there were two poodles that did tricks with a hat. Amazingly, one of the dogs could do additional sums on a board! The circus was amusing and entertaining just like the kids at school had said. At the end of the show, we took a lot of pictures especially with the funny clowns. I was very grateful to my parents for taking me. As we went back home, I was full of joy.
