Nurses face ethical quandaries when they are unable to perform what they believe is right; they endure moral discomfort. Others do not dare to speak up or take action, while others do. Witnessing patients' suffering and attempting to weigh pain with benefits, as well as the intricacy of judgments that can be made in the acute-care context, imposes a moral responsibility. In this study, we will critically assess moral situations that PMHNPs face and devise an appropriate action strategy.
The article summarizes the ethical quandary in the age of social media. Workplace considerations also include shared medium and individual confines. As technological advancement continues changing and distorting long-established medical practices on confidentiality and restrictions (Kaplan, 2017). Social media and that utilisation of technology is an extensively problematic crisis for nurses, regarding what they display in the public forum and what contacts they have with their patient. Patients may appear to have discovered their medical profile through the online platform, placing the clinician in a complicated ethical situation.
Prioritizing patient needs in mental care sometimes can be demanding (McCoy, 2017). As a result, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner arise from situations giving the impression that they did not act morally for patients who had inadequate optimum care. Nurses reveal how it is hard to achieve conflicting responsibilities, for instance balancing between duties and speaking to patients who are upset. In psychiatric care, patient needs vary from patient to patient, so priorities also change as nurses attend to new patients(Kaplan, 2017). Cultural variation and caring for people with different values and traditions, and acknowledging their rituals presents challenges in the care setting. Provision of affordable and impartial care to stages ethical problems for nurses as they strain to deliver care. Safety in patient care and staffing demands also relates to the proper work setting. Education is vital in nursing curriculums to prepare nursing students for clinical practice. Constant training in ethics is encouraged in nursing mentally-ill patients (Kaplan, 2017). All hospital should have integrity committee, in which PMHNP required to participate in the decisions making. Similarly, they can establish the ethics committee to express their concerns as well as get assistance when they find themselves in any dilemma. Providing unit-centred moral code counsellors who can help PMHNP understand the concerns they face (McCoy, 2017). Ethical advocacy, speaking up and deliberating on earlier intervention. Although it may hard to share about the ethical dilemma faced by an individual nurse, speaking can ease the moral conflict. Nurses within the system can advocate for appropriate staffing for the patient population and understand how to solve disputes of inadequate staffing.
In conclusion, ethical consideration should be reflected to deliver mental care efficiently. Better health outcome is as a result of upholding patient confidentiality which is critical in establishing credibility for the healthcare provider. In this era of technological advancement, Nurses should understand the personal boundaries and practised virtual reality alongside menaces of unintended and careless display of this protected information.
