The world has really become a small village due to technology. The daily advancement in technology has consequentially increased the fake news production in the social media and mass communication media. People have also become lazy in doing research yet information is easily accessible compared to the past. The 1984 film is a reflection of the current and future life. Some of the most influential people are controlling our minds by developing a propaganda which many people believe to be the truth due to the trust they have for the mass media. This means that we should not always accept the propaganda we hear over the media until it is proved right or wrong by doing a research.
Supporting Example
In 1984, telescreen and the two minutes hate has been used as a form of propaganda. The ruling party wants to fill the people with fake news so that their minds can be controlled. This makes it difficult for the people to think of forming a rebellion or lobbying groups to challenge the government. The people, on the other hand, pretend all is well because they know that Big Brother is watching over them. Instead of the people use the available ways to access information or doing a research they accept to 'be controlled'. This could have helped them understand that the government is taking advantage of them.
Refutation
Fake news and propaganda are all over but this does not mean that we should not listen to them. There is also a lot of meaningful news and information from some of the mass media concerning the people who are after manipulating us by controlling our minds. Instead of only focusing on the negative side, the propaganda will always come to a true in future either in the way it is presented or a similar manner. People should not refute a propaganda but listen to it and understand what the government, for instance, is communicating. The claims of Goldstein alerts people that they should wake up and challenge what is not right.
Call to Action
I call on Winston to bring about the power of propaganda to the people. Winston understood that the propaganda that was used by the government was majorly to confuse them. He should have encouraged people not to accept everything they hear from the telescreens despite the environment surrounding them. Doing a research can save an individual or a group of people. Rather than just giving in to people's decisions, facts can save them from a wrong affluence. The right information can give one the confidence and strength to challenge what is not moral according to their ethical principles.
