The Connections between Reality-based Programming, Social Media, and “Fake News”

Reality TV Programs and Their True Purpose

Based on the best times and ratings, reality TV programs are broadcast frequently. The truth about a celebrity may not always be reflected in reality-based programming. These programs are made specifically to spread a story to the public in a particular way. It's interesting how many regular people pay attention to the names of these shows because they feature the word "Reality." However, the true purpose of these real-time programs is to draw viewers and disseminate stories to the audience from a particular perspective. This fact is also true and applicable for other modern digital media platforms such as social media. Celebrities are

The Spread of False Information

Popular public figures and people want to know about them. They want to know most about their favorite celebrities (Lewis 71). In the achievement of this purpose some people intentionally obtain some space to spread 'fake news' about a particular celebrity. The readers of such news or false information do not like to verify whether the authenticity of a particular news story spread over the social media or any other digital news spreading medium.

Being Critical of Celebrity News

In other words one thing that must be understood by the readers or viewers of a particular 'fake news' about any celebrity is to stop believe blindly over anything. The people must make it a habit to refer only to authentic and reliable news agencies or digital media groups to acquire entertainment specific or general purpose information. This is mainly because some guys are looking to exploit the simplicity of common public and run their 'shows' and personal agenda shows to defame a person (Holbert 436). Since it is a cheap way to use name of a famous public figure in order to fulfill self or financial interests and the authorities does not take actions against such fake news producers proactively. For some people it is fun to discuss private lives of celebrities and public figures by any aspect and even if someone narrates a 'cooked up' story that doesn't matter for the most.

Educational Programs and Strict Laws

There should be an educational and awareness-based program that must be played on the respective mediums of communications. This program should state the legal consequences that an individual may face in case of getting caught 'red-handed'. The senators and law makers must also consider it important to educate the people about the severity of conducting such third degree actions. This practice should be condemned and discredited by every sphere of society and community leaders must come ahead to speak openly about importance of 'truth' and 'authenticity' in every sphere of life including the entertainment industry. After running educational programs for a certain period of time about condemning the fake and cooked up stories spread about celebrities and/or public figures the next step is to introduce adequate strict law(s) to stop such practices. The bottom line is to detect, identify and discourage fake news spreading and believing practices in any form over the TV shows or social media.
