Risk Factors of Service Line Task 2

According to the assessment, there is a growth in demand for all of the orthopedic service line's key services, including orthopedic, cancer, and cardiovascular care. According to predictions, the demand for orthopedic treatments will rise by 46% as a result of increases in outpatient-inpatient joint and spine surgeries of 30 and 50%, respectively. On the other hand, the demand for oncology services is expected to expand by 34% over the next five years, outpacing the resources available now. Similarly, over the next five years, about 15% of the population is depicted to be 65 years and above, thus increasing the expected cases for coronary heart disease with a margin of 21.6%. The growth will affect the cardiovascular service area, especially with the diagnostic procedures escalating with 22% and the angioplasties with 25.8%.
After an assessment of the existing resources for the hospital, it is evident that these resources are limited to meeting the expected demands over the five-year span. Currently, the physician's capacity is full, and thus they are unable to meet the needs of the patients owing to the anticipated growth. Also, the institution is in lack of extra medical equipment to provide better care for the patients in the surgical and rehab centers. Education and training on the accounts of cancer prevention and early detection are limited. Therefore, these factors translate as the risk factors to the hospital especially with the anticipated increase in the demands.
A2. Addressing Needs
The hospital has recognized that the lack of enough physicians is a challenge to their service line. The issue is addressed with the cardiovascular and oncology service areas through the recruitment of additional physicians to curb the problem. The two service areas address the need to obtain additional staff members who will be responsible for caring for the large volume of patients within the next five years. However, the orthopedic service line fails to alleviate the risk since they are not actively engaged in the recruitment of the needed physicians. The need for education on the early detection and prevention of cancer is not addressed by any of the service lines towards the anticipated growth in service demands. The need for additional equipment for the medical practices has, however, not been addressed effectively by the hospital.
A3. Health Planning Summary
With the expected rise in the demands for the oncology, orthopedic and the cardiovascular services, it is imperative to develop strategies aimed at meeting the health concerns of the community. As such, it is recommended to the organization that they engage in the recruitment of physicians and surgeons in each of the three service areas of the hospital. With the increase in the physicians, all the service lines will have the opportunity to offer distinctive clinical services and programs to the population, enabling the hospital to provide quality services to the community and meeting their health concerns.
As noted, there is the need for additional equipment to meet the demands for services provided by the hospital. As such, Trinity Community Hospital must address the issue of both the space required for cardiac and surgical therapies and rehabilitation services and the necessary equipment in the same. Rabarison, Timsina, and Mays, (2015) indicate that space is essential for adequate care for patients and thus the institution has to strategize in obtaining the space and the equipment required. The two needed assets will assist in preparation for the anticipated need for the services offered by Trinity Community Hospital.
There is a need to develop a strategic plan that is aimed at ensuring the educational needs of the community are addressed efficiently. During the diagnosis and treatment process, it is imperative that the patients receive training on various factors of the disease they have and measures to implement for proper progression and prevention for similar cases in the future. It is, therefore, recommended that the hospital design an educational program for the three service lines to offer the patients training on the conditions affecting them while providing treatment services to the same. For the cancer patients, training on the top known sites for the disease is necessary to increase the patient's knowledge on the same and support early diagnosis which would improve the health outcomes for the patients at lower costs.
Finally, it is recommended that the nurses at Trinity Community Hospital engage in coordinated activities for the service lines. Due to the anticipated growth in the demand for the services the hospital offers, coordination will improve the efficiency of dealing with patients, thus reducing the workload on any practitioner. The timeline for dealing with patients will reduce, hence increasing the time to serve the many healthcare needs of the community. Similarly, the hospital will have the opportunity to meet their objectives of providing quality and patient-centered care to all the patients within the institution.
