Public Relations in the Fashion Industry

One of the industries that has always captivated me is the fashion industry where my interest has always been a notch higher. The SWOT analysis that focuses on public relations in the fashion business is as follows.



Strengths



My outstanding organizing and communication abilities rank among my strengths. Because it is necessary in the field, my ability to operate in a team will ensure that I get along well with others. Students are graduating with degrees in public relations, which is also a field that is well-accepted in academia. My communication and writing abilities.



Weaknesses



Weaknesses while working in the field include lack of any VIP or celebrity experience since I haven't interacted with any celebrities. Job experience is required to be able to work in the area (Blaszczyk, 2014), I, however, will begin from entry career level jobs which will enable me to gain experience for the job. My weak computer skills are a disadvantage since I will be required to write articles I will, therefore, be required to take computer classes.



Opportunities



Opportunities in the industry include traveling all over the world which will enable me to network with people in the fashion industry (fingerpaint, 2014). I will also be able to meet people from different fashion houses creating my brand. The fashion industry attracts a lot of attention; therefore my work will be highlighted to many people. The use of social media will enable me to sell our brand more to people.



Threats



The threats include competition from other fashion houses which can lead to the collapse of the company I will be working for. Trends in the fashion industry change drastically one needs to ensure that they are aware of them (Grunig, 2013). Dealing with celebrities of high influence and maintenance can be a threat since you can quickly lose your job based on the recommendation that they give about you. Ensuring that I have background information before working with celebrities will eliminate this threat.



Career Plan



The following is my career plan as a public relations consultant in the fashion industry. In the first three years, I intend to undertake a course in computer applications which will improve my computer skills. I also plan on working so hard which will ensure I gain the required skills that will help in the years to come. As I begin my career, I plan on working in Los Angeles which will ensure that I build relationships with celebrities in the area. I plan on beginning on an entry level from there I shall work my way slowly rising the ranks.



Moving to New York after five years will be a good career move for me New York is considered as one of the well-known fashion hubs in the world. The experience and the networks I will have gained will be a good foundation as I work in New York. I plan on working on the dominant fashion houses such as Abercrombie and Fitch and Calvin Klein. Working for a major fashion house will build my work experience and will cushion me as I plan on working in other countries. I aim to undertake classes in one or two foreign languages which will ensure that I am flexible to work in other countries.



What I envision for my career after seven years of working in the fashion industry as a public relations consultant is working in Paris one of the major fashion capitals of the world. I will undertake a diploma in international relations which will ensure that I can work on a global level. I aim at working in one of the major fashion houses while in Paris such as Balmain. If I manage to work in a foreign country on a well-recognized brand, I plan on undertaking an MBA in business administration, with the knowledge helping me to open up my PR firm that deals with fashion related matters.
