nursing student

Good day, nurse. I am an Illinois Nursing College nursing student doing a leadership course and would like to gain some insight into how an individual might carry out leadership activities. In addition, I am the HR director of a minor hospital in my hometown. According to Porter-O'Grady and Malloch (2016), leadership in nursing is concerned with critical thinking, achievement, and encouragement. It has a significant impact on the lives of nurses as well as the entire health-care system in the region/country. After introducing myself to the nurse, I was asked to describe the purpose of the interview. It was a strategy to push the nurse to offer critical information regarding the model of leadership that can be implemented in a nursing institution. The nurse’s experience in the nursing field helps with the aspects of identifying the best way of administering and drafting solutions in case of any hazards or misunderstandings in the hospitals. However, creating a good connection with the interviewee leads to the attainment of more information compared to the partnership with a poor connection.

Purpose statement

The primary objective of the consultation was to have an ideology in the way an individual in the nursing industry can handle certain grievances and have duties executed accurately. Receiving these pieces of information during the interview was to help analyze the various actions that an individual can consider during leadership. Additionally, there was a need to assess the concepts of competency or if there is anything more in the leadership applications in the nursing field. Implementation of poor leadership in the nursing field will ignite issues of disagreements. The patients may be exposed to dangers that may aggravate their medical situation and seek an alternative model of care from the doctors. Therefore, there is a need to identify the best monitoring practices that should be offered in the {clinics, hospitals, and dispensary} medical industry.

Dialogue

The nurse has a ten-year experience in the nursing industry using different leadership styles at the place of work. In comparison to my experience in the medical industry, the applied leadership style can hardly help improve the public’s way of life. The concept of choosing this nurse was to offer guidance on the ways of controlling the level of dissatisfaction in the organization. According to a publication by Asamani, Naab, & Ofei (2016), nursing is valued as a people-centered profession whose success is attained from the type of leadership that is being applied. The nurse managers are considered to be the vital determinants to the aspect of job satisfaction to a nurse. The position of a department head in a hospital requires a series of advice from professionals to improve the model of conduct among the nurses. The aspect of holding this position led to the instances of discussing with senior leaders in the nursing industry linking these concepts to the current working environment.

Transactional and Democratic leadership were often applied by the nurse at his station recording a series of improvements in activities execute at his place of work. Handling discrepancies in a medical institution will often call for leniency and interpretation of all sections of the divide. On the other hand, the application of authoritarian leadership may create an aspect of dissatisfaction with one part considered to be the advantaged and a have a majority say in the determination of a way to implement specific acts. Business leaders have the ability to promote peace in the company as they are committed to advancing this ideology (Ledbetter, 2016). A leader implementing diplomatic leadership will have the chance to investigate and generate additional insight into the relationship between the social and technical aspects of the actual practice applied in the organization. An instance of authoritarian leadership in a hospital will hardly offer an opportunity to attain the required information regarding the patient’s medical state. The employees will be filled with fear and cannot collect the information needed for the patients, thus affecting the medical descriptions that are to be offered.

A good leader possesses various qualities like excellent interpersonal skills, managerial abilities, honesty, commitment, and confidence. These qualities will create a favorable working environment at the facility with limited instances of misunderstanding in the workplace. Shaping leadership in the country will have a direct impact on the health sector as all duties will be executed in under right procedures. In case of any misinterpretations of the leaders, an alternative is provided to offer better opportunities to work and administer care to the patients. It is also addressed by Mudallal, Saleh, Al-Modallal, & Abdel-Rahman, (2017), that instances of burnout among the nurses are ignited by the working conditions of a particular leadership. It is an aspect that has a direct impact on the model of service that is delivered to the patients and the feedback that will be received from a client. Furthermore, a leader will god qualities will help a nurse gain better health and limited instances of diseases that will affect the level of input that they are offering in the facility.

Empowerment in the medical industry can be attained through the implementation of effective policies and procedures in the workplace. Secondly, a leader can apply the concepts of improved communication facilities that will have an impact on the daily operations. The use of effective policies will reduce chances of misinterpretation of ideologies and also have a better approach to completing their duties. The worker will have an ideal plan on how to solve particular aspects in the workstation focusing on the urgent sectors of work. Similarly, the inclusion of appropriate communication within the workplace will create a better chance to run operations. According to Read & Laschinger (2015), if a department has the required information about a given task can create a plan on how to execute their mandate. In the long run, the manager will instill an aspect of time management among the workers as they will create better communication platforms, offering guidance on the best way to implement a given task. Nevertheless, the context of empowerment in the future heavily depends on the senior managers of a given company (Lashley, 2012).

The interview gives a window for change to nurses as they can apply the different activities that were seconded by the experienced nurse. The current change applied at my workplace is the issue of communication with fellow workers. It creates a chance of attaining the required piece of information about a particular activity being executed in the hospital. In the long run, there are fewer cases of hazards/ misunderstandings in the hospital compared to the times of autocratic leadership that was being applied. Similarly, the nurses are requested to show respect to their bosses reducing instances of friction during working hours. A good relationship with the leaders at their place of work creates an aspect of job satisfaction, hence the attainment of the operational goals and the set milestone.

Lastly, every nurse in the industry should have a specific program that they are following while at work and off the workstation. It will offer direction on how to implement their duties and what activities should not be implemented at the workstation. For example, being rude and harsh to a patient will reduce the chances of attaining the ideal piece of information regarding their condition. A nurse may end up issuing wrong prescriptions that will create more harm to the patient’s body, hence additional costs for treatment or death of the individual. In the long run, the nurse is likely to lose the employment opportunity, serve a jail term, or both as the nurse’s operation books will have a negative record.

In conclusion, the discussion offered vast information regarding the ways of leading a nursing department and drafting solutions to the different problems that are affecting employees. In the nursing field, no sector should be considered as the advantaged irrespective of the fact that there is a need or leadership in the hospitals. In the future, the nurses and leaders should create a better communication environment that will have no instances of ego. It is because the patients are considered as the affected parties in case of disagreements among the leaders and the nurses. The coming generation will have limited trust in the hospitals and create the urge to find alternative sections to receive medical assistance.
