Megabytes of Hate - definition of hate speech

To some extent, hate speech is protected under the US Constitution. According to Tolchin & Tolchin (2007), any comment including any direct and credible threats to a firm or an individual is hate speech and may be considered a crime. The majority of hate speech incidents are discovered on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, among others. Interestingly, these mediums are used not only for communication but also as forums for expressing opinions. As a result, I believe the constitution should not be amended to restrict hate speech. Every person has the freedom to speech and opinions as declared by the Constitution of the United States. In this regard, the people have the opportunity to air their views on what they consider beneficial or disadvantageous. It is, therefore, important not to change the constitution to prohibit hate speech since necessary information may not be relayed to the community. There are some pros and cons attributed to preventing the changes to be made to the United States Constitution as described below:

Pros

It is inevitable to note that people have the right to air their views and opinions. Moreover, the Social media platforms are available for people to air their discontent with people, especially politicians. During the process, hate speech may arise and is sometimes inevitable. As such, if the constitution is not amended to prohibit hate speech, people can air their views on various aspects and thus help to improve the community. According to Forbes.com. (2017), hate speech is a form of communication to the community and assists in passing information that is vital to the same.

Also, hate speech should not be prohibited by the United State Constitution since it limits the voice of the community. Issues such as crime in the government system, organizations, and other elements are made known to the public through the hate speech. Tolchin and Tolchin, (2007) point out that people expose the secrets of the community through hate speech an unregulated language especially in the social media platforms. Cases such as collaboration with terrorism, embezzlement of funds and misappropriation of information can be condemned through hate speech from the public.

Cons

One of the cons associated with the constitution not changing to prevent hate speech is that language will not be fully utilized professionally. Improper language consisting of insults and threatening words may be used, which is not good. Similarly, Forbes.com. (2017) Indicates that hate speech may result in adverse outcomes such as fights and disagreements that are uncalled for. Attacks from other countries and terrorists can also occur owing to hate speech.

Conclusion

The people of the United States have the right to speech and must air their views and opinions on any aspect which concerns them. The constitution of the United States, to some extent, protects hate speech. However, I support the notion that the Constitution should not be adjusted to prohibit hate speech. This is because people can air their views on various aspects and thus help to improve the community. Moreover, issues such as crime in the government system, organizations, and other elements are made known to the public through the hate speech. However, some corns are also exhibited with the lack of prohibiting hate speech.
