Maya Angelou's Contributions to the Society

I researched about Maya Angelou and her contributions to the society. During the research, I visited various sites such as online magazines and biographies, which contained crucial information about Angelou. From the research, I found out that Angelou was a prolific author and memoirist. Moreover, I learned that the author wrote many books and her autobiography at a time when the rights of African Americans were being abused. However, I struggled to understand the way she could gather information despite the struggles she experienced.

The most useful sources I used for the research were Spencer Kornhaber and Tarana Burke’s articles regarding some of the social issues faced by blacks and other minorities in the U.S. Kornhaber (n.p.) highlights how Angelou used her own stories to “advocate for all.” Particularly, Angelou used her autobiography to highlight her experiences to her growing audience. On the other hand, Burke (n.p.) discusses #MeToo, the campaign that was started to fight for the rights of black and brown women and girls. Women and girls are the most ignored beings in the society.

From the two articles, the resilience of women and their struggle for recognition stood out to me. Personally, I gained confidence since the articles gave me more evidence to understand the issue. However, I encountered some problems during the research process. For instance, some search words could not return substantial information.

Out of the ten research techniques provided, I managed to use the quantitative research technique to obtain crucial statistical information regarding the issue. Following this research, I have gained new insights into conducting research. One of the insights is that preparation is very important before any research. Finally, the society should continue with Angelou’s efforts to improve the lives of women and girls.
