From a personal perspective

From a personal standpoint, films play a significant role in shaping people's ideologies on problems that occur in their setting. Hidden Figures and Lincoln are two films that I think have the potential to turn an individual's political susceptibilities as it comes to profound differences.
Hidden Figures tells the story of three determined women, Dorothy Vaughan, Katherine Johnson, and Mary Jackson, who struggled at a time when racial inequality in the United States was at its height. It is a struggle of power for women with brilliant minds who, despite their contribution to the government whereby they worked as computers at NASA, they experience discrimination in the workplace, at their homes and also when pursuing further education. However, they use their minds to fight for equality in their various positions such that they are allowed to access facilities, education, and jobs similarly to the whites without being discriminated. The women did not take part in social activist groups but rather used their brilliant minds to bring about racial equality in their areas of influence (Hidden Figures). The film is relevant when it comes to having an impact on the issue of differences and racial discrimination and hence having the capability of transforming the political susceptibilities of an individual.





Lincoln

The film is based on the role of Abraham Lincoln in bringing immense changes in the United States of America. The film brings into perspective the leadership skills, desire and the care that Lincoln showed to people resulting to a great America. He took part in the enactment of the 13th amendment that focused on the permanent abolishment of slavery in addition to ending the war. The film illustrates the drive that the president had, despite the strong opposition that he faced, to ensure the well-being of the people (Lincoln). The film is relevant when it comes to having an influence on the issue of equality and protecting the welfare of individuals and hence having the capability of transforming the political susceptibilities of an individual.
