The New Academy Estates in Boston

Insufficient Funding in the Community

Most of the time, there is insufficient funding in the community to support and provide for the residents, youths, and the significant activities in the society. Health care activities and parenthood also require adequate funding so that there is sufficient and proper growth in the community. I live in the new academy estates in a society which is subsidized. It goes by your income, and therefore many families are not able to live and conduct their activities on their own. It is therefore evident that my community need more funding in the community center so that many kids can develop a strong structure to enable them to achieve what they want and to learn more. Through the provision of more funds in the community center, many kids will get the opportunity to have fun and enjoy activities that they do not afford in their homes. As a result, new academy estates should be provided with more funds to help better the lives of adults and children who live in these areas and who cannot afford some activities they need at the comfort of their own homes.

Rehabilitation Programs at New Academy Estates

On May 31, 2005, I made an official visit to the largest rehabilitation programs in Boston. I realized that the ribbon cutting at the 236-unit new academy estates signified the end of the $276 million demonstrations of the deposition of the mass housing. It was a program which helped rehabilitate more than 1850 subsidized rental housing units. The private ownership was transferred controlled organizations and marked one of the largest rehabilitation programs in Boston (Shutt, 257).

Completion of Construction at New Academy Estates

Gloria Bowers, the president of the new academy estates said that it had taken them a long time to reach there, but finally they had achieved their objectives. The president said that they had one key throughout the process which kept them moving. The motive was never to quit before they completed their job and therefore they would see the best. As a result, they did not quit, and hence they were able to complete the construction of the new homes.

Final Development at Demo Dispo Program

The construction of these new homes was their final development and marked the 11th and final project to be completed at the Demo Dispo program. The construction of these housing units utilized simple materials and cheap labor. As a result, a study conducted on the project revealed that it would be less costly to demolish and rebuild the construction, than rehabilitating the same project (Canova, 756).

Transformative Development

When an interview was conducted with the mayor, he said that the project was a transformative development, which serves as an incredible new gateway to the Eggleston square. The mayor urged that the residents should be congratulated for their contribution and hard work in making their neighborhood a better place to live. Therefore, the residents of the academy asked to be included in the program and played a significant part in every decision along the way. One of the major decision made during the construction of the project was to make the building a tenant-owned cooperative and the hence it helped improve the economy of the area. It was a significant decision that enhanced the lives of many people in the area.

Advantages of More Funds for New Academy Estates

In regards to the information obtained from the Mass housing demonstration deposition program, it is evident there are various reasons why the new academy estates should be provided with more funds. One of the main advantages is to create equal opportunities. The projects play several roles in the communities where they are an asset. It is because they can act as rehabilitation centers while at the same time provide an opportunity for economic growth for the youths. It improves businesses owned by residents and women in the community. The program also increases homeownership especially among the minority groups in the society. It creates affordable housing for low-income earners in society. The program also advocates for economic and community development while at the same time it encourages for fair housing laws. People with disabilities and those who live with HIV and aids get enough support from the funds allocated to the new academy estates.

Funding for Maintenance and Infrastructure

In the United States, Multi-academy trusts and other academy trust groups that have more than 3000 people and five academies get a school condition allocation (SCA) which is used in the maintenance of their estates. On the other, academies which do not qualify to be part of the MAT have the opportunity to apply for the condition improvement fund, (CIF) every financial year. The advantages of SCA and CIF is to retain the school buildings in good condition so that children can learn in an effective and safe environment. SCA is strictly used to maintain the premises in good terms and safe through building compliance, safety, and energy issues and tackling poor building conditions. The newly established academies deserve these funds to cope up with similar challenges and create a conducive environment for those who thrive around them (Courtney, 811).

Compliance with Safety and Health Regulations

The new academy estates should be encouraged to conduct their activities under the safety and health at work act and ensure that they comply with all the appropriate regulations of construction. It is an act which entails asbestos management where appropriate. They are required to have the knowledge which relates to the recent conditions of the new estate and come up with a long-term strategy on how the assets can be managed. Also, the management of these estates is required to keep the critical buildings in modern condition through prevention works and replacement when the buildings are beyond economic repair.

Energy Efficient Fund for Newly Established Academies

The newly established estate academies should be given the opportunity to apply for the Salix energy efficient fund. It is because there are a lot of advantages which are associated with saving energy. These academies can, therefore, use their flexibility to transfer their funds from different allocations within the estate so that they fully support the saving of energy projects in their academies. Later the academies can return the achieved savings through capital projects by revenue funding transfer and any other fund retained for the shared services.

Maintenance and Condition Work

In the newly established academies, maintenance and condition work should be covered through contact with the condition and maintenance provider. For instance, in these academies, the contractor will negotiate with the estate management so that they can determine their willingness to take on the project, or the ability of a third party coming forward to complete the works for a similar or additional standalone block. The management will have to put into consideration the cost of any proposed construction, through negotiation with the contractor and get convinced that it has a good value for their money (Greany, 125).

Funding for Health Care Facilities and Infrastructure Development

Funding the newly established estate academies will help create health care facilities. It is in these healthcare facilities where the children of the low incomes will get access to medication. The aged and disabled people will have an opportunity to enjoy affordable health care in these facilities. Psychological support will be provided through guidance and counselling, and hence it will impact the society positively. Also, the health care facilities will employ health care practitioners such as doctors, nurses, clinicians, and pharmacist. It will give this group of professionals an opportunity to give back to their society.

The allocated funds will be used in infrastructure development. Construction of proper drainage systems will help reduce the spread of diseases. Also, with appropriate infrastructure, the area will be opened up, and therefore more business opportunities will be available for the people living in these estates.

Social Amenities and Recreational Facilities

The funds will be used in the creation of social amenities and recreational facilities. Children in this area will have the opportunity to play and interact using the facilities. They will have a chance to enjoy like their peers who get access to similar facilities at the comfort of their homes. Therefore the facilities will improve the psychological perceptions of these children and in turn raise their morale. It fosters hard work and improves their social lives. Community organization activities will be improved through the funding. As a result, the community will be better organized and united to fight common problems such as diseases and poverty. The estate leaders will be empowered to perform their duties as expected and maximum delivery will be witnessed in the community.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is evident that from this paper that the new academy estates should have more funding. These academies offer a wide range of services to the community and therefore providing them with more funds creates an opportunity for them to fulfill the expectations of the city. They help many people especially children who access play materials and other child needs. The program provides an opportunity for the members of the community to enjoy steady growth and enjoy facilities that are not available in their own homes. It creates a platform where people feel privileged and can work hard to achieve their personal goals and objectives.
