In any career, ethical values are vital in decision making (Morton et al., 2017) Philosophy is inextricably linked to our own selves, and as such, it should play an important role in all professions. In my nursing career, I honestly think that nursing is a calling motivated by a passion to help and care for others. Nursing is a noble profession that should not be taken lightly. My primary objective as a nurse is to give nonjudgmental care to all people, regardless of ethnicity, cultural values, disability, or financial situation. Further, taking initiatives in continuously improving the quality of the services is also essential in the nursing practice (Morton et al.,2017).
My philosophy is caring in that nurses are responsible for providing a holistic caring environment that is patient centered. My caring nature underlies back in childhood where I had the responsibility of taking care of my siblings. Providing care involved taking initiatives, listening and proving guidance appropriately. Hence, being in the nursing career has created an avenue to share the values and skills. Patients require individualized attention. Nurses should meet the patients’ need through a clinical judgment (Masters, 2015). Communication, compassion, kindness, respect are essential in providing care to both the patient and the family (Rich, 2013)
I believe that nurses require working with professionalism and an integration of psychology so as to understand the patient coherently. Through the establishment of the patients’ history and understating cultural diversity, helps a nurse to understand the behavior of the patient as well as their attitude. Hence, ensuring that high-quality services are provided, for effective treatment. Therefore, as a nurse, I dedicate the nursing services to God as I fulfill the purpose of taking care of others.
