The Effects of Capitalism on a Common American Citizen

The movie, “Documenting Hate” depicts the effects of capitalism from the point of view of an ordinary citizen of the United States of America. Capitalism refers to the economic system private or corporate ownership of the nation’s capital goods as the key characteristics (Greenspan, and Adrian 193). More to that, the investments in the capitalist system are determined by private decision and production, distribution and prices of goods in all industries are competitive in a market that is free. This paper is going to provide a summary of the movie “Documenting Hate: New American Nazis” with the key focus on the effects of capitalism on a common American citizen.

Local Terrorist Instances and the New American Nazis

The video starts with a local terrorist instance whereby Robert Bower, a common American citizen, had murdered 11 people in a church that morning. The attack is regarded as the deadliest anti-Semitic yet the attacker remained defiant and determined when he was taken to court. The video goes on and investigates more previous attacks on different social gathering that were associated with the terrorist group called the New American Nazis. According to the video, there are many pieces of evidence starting from simple attacks to major ones that indicate the terrorist group has existed for a long time. Common American citizens live in poor condition and as a result, some of them end up not learning and thus, desperate for ways to redeem themselves hence being easily convinced to join terrorist groups such as the neo-Nazi group. Some of these youths grow up with negative attitudes and intentions towards those in the high-class life.

The Harsh Reality of the Common American Citizen

The life of a common American citizen is not easy given that the cost of living and the general key resources in their life is controlled by the small percentage of rich people who have corporate shares. Capitalism has made life worse and caused them to resort to terrorism (Alperovitz, and James 324). The neo-Nazi group has managed to go as far as recruiting people in the military with combat skills. The effects of capitalism on the common American citizen have been unpleasant as it has caused some people to join terrorist groups and others, to engage in illegal dealings to gain an advantage over life.
