Dance Kinesiology-Body Types

The term "somatype" is used to classify the human body according to the relative contribution of the physical structure of the body to the psychological, cardiovascular, masculinity, and elemental components of the body, such as weight distribution and other elements of heart rate, among others. This terminology and categorization approach were developed by William Herbert Sheldon with the intention of describing the various body types that humans possess and the likely suitable exercises each should perform in order to realize the full potential of the body and improve flexibility, mobility, strength, and weight distribution. What are distinguishing characteristics of each somatotype? (A paragraph for each type.)

There are three categories of the human-perceived body. They have certain differences that occur in the way the weight is distributed, the cardiovascular ability of the body and the adrenaline system as well as the flexibility and strength ability.

Ectomorphs

This category has a predominance of the nerve tissue with long fragile bone structure. They have a low level of hemoglobin and low levels of adrenaline in the bloodstream. They have quick and fast moves and flexibility that is facilitated by the efficiency of the nervous system and the mechanical relationship between the parts of the skeletal structure. However, despite the flexibility ability, they have decreased durations of workouts as a result of low cardiovascular ability.

Mesomorphs

The predominant feature in this category is the connective and muscle tissue that are well developed. They have an average to low blood pressure that is associated with low heart rate. Their bodies are set in such a way that they appear Solid Square, muscled and athletic like. They have a denser skeletal and connective tissue contributing to their sturdy and tightness of their bodies. They are hard to maintain flexibility and excel in activities that require quick moves. However, they perform well activities that require strength and endurance due to the high energy levels. They can relax more comfortably after working out. Because of their capacities, they are therefore able to maintain flexibility strength and endurance in the activities they engage in training.

Endomorphs

This category of people has a rounded body that is referred o contain excess fatty tissue. The shoulders are slightly broader than the hips. However, this aspect is balanced by the even distribution of the weight as compared to the other two types of somatypes. The psychological function falls between the two other somatypes with muscles and cardiovascular functions being less than those of mesomorphs are but larger than those of ectomorphs. The adrenaline system is less compared to mesomorphs. However, they are more flexible compared to mesomorphs but less flexibility concerning ectomorphs. In that context, therefore, this category is primarily average with the developments that the other two somatypes possess. Their flexibility lies mainly between the capabilities of the two with their capacities being less than those of mesomorphs regarding physique but higher in flexibility and mobility than the mesomorphs. However, their physique is greater than that of ectomorphs with less flexibility and mobility abilities as possessed by the ectomorphs. What is your somatotype and or combination of somatotypes? Give 3 specific examples that helped you determine your type(s).

I have determined that I am predominantly an Ectomorph with Endomorph tendencies. My strongest Ectomorph characteristics are that I am very flexible with the ability to make quick and sudden moves. However, I have less strength to sustain my moves. In addition to this, when I consume large amounts of food, my belly tends to protrude outwards due to my less space to accommodate my internal organs. My endomorph characteristics include posture that is defined my shoulders being slightly broader than the hips. In addition to this, I have a significant amount of weight that is characterized by my high possession of fat and time-to-time less flexibility than should be according to the ectomorph characteristics. I am in a position to maintain flexibility and long durations of working out which is due to my strength that is characterized by the muscles that I possess.

What specific strategies for training and conditioning would be helpful for your body type?

The most helpful strategies for my body type include strategies that improve my physique and mental abilities. These include engagement in activities that promote my physical strength such as stretching and weight actualization approaches. In addition to this, I wish to strategize on improving durations of strain that would include activities of long breath-holding exercises. I will also engage in long, vigorous moves over long durations to improve the cardiovascular abilities of my body.

How can you implement these strategies into your quest to be a better dancer?

To be a better dancer, I would implement these strategies by engaging in activities that I excel best in and avoid comparing my body to other people’s. In addition to this, I will engage in doing what is right in terms of exercise and avoid frustrations. Lastly, I will approach the right teacher for my training to be on the right channel to succeed in achieving what I wish to make.
