Analysis of The Trial by Kafka

A tragedy movie can be defined as a movie in which the main character undergoes extreme suffering and sorrows especially if the victim is exposed to situations where he or she cannot cope with the circumstances because they are unfavorable. The movie – the trial by Kafka can be characterized as a tragedy movie because of the sufferings that the main character – Joseph K. went through in the entire movie. The author of the movie put K. in a situation where he is arrested by unknown people, from unidentified agency; for a crime that he knows nothing about, and all that is happening during his 30th

birthday.

Analysis

Space is a critical factor in one’s life and once space is denied, then someone is denied a very important aspect in life. In this movie, space is used as a weapon to torment Joseph. K. This movie has explored both mental and physical space in many outlets. The invasion of space of the main character has both mental and physical effects to him. The authority in the movie or else the government represented in the movie uses space as a weapon to control masses where individuals space in invaded (Hammer 210). In this case, K. isolated and taken into a room that has poor aeration, crowded, and very shabby (Hammer 215).” The fact that space has been invaded makes the movie a tragic one. The character is being taken through harsh conditions. He is supposed to share the small room with many other inmates yet the room is not well ventilated. This is even a life threatening condition because airborne diseases can be spread easily in such a condition and also suffocation is a possibility.

The whole process of K’s trial is absurd. The reasons why K. is arrested remains unknown even at the end of the novel. He is tried in an invisible court. He is arrested without being informed of his crime and the people who arrest him do not identify themselves. Few days after he was arrested and was let go to continue with his business, he received a call and he was ordered to appear before a court and he was not given any directions about it or any further details. He had to look for the court manually and he later found out that it was not a legit court where he would be assembled before a judge and be informed of his crime. There was no court sessions that day. This is another reason why this movie can be characterized as a tragedy. The main character is put through hardships in life. The right channels are not followed when dealing with his case. When he tries to complain about it, some officers tell him that he does not know anything about the law so he should not complain. K is oppressed mentally and physically. He is oppresses mentally in that; he is trying to figure out why he is arrested and why he has to suffer innocently. On basis of physical suffering, he is put in a situation where he has to physically locate places where he is not given directions.

Conclusion

K. is an anti-hero. Despite the fact that he knows that he is innocent, he is convinced that he is guilty. He has chances to flee his trial but he opts to be killed.
