The main goal of the proposed curatorial exhibition is to give young female artists a platform to share their accomplishments and body of work with the public. Using artifacts that depart from the common and conventional means of communicating a message to a particular audience using the common methods of writing stories, many female artists have begun narrating their stories (Rentschler 665). When female artists work to develop their skills by making an attempt to land their first solo or group show, curators are delighted and fulfilled.
Why is it important, why does it matter?
Empowering of girls and women in attaining gender equality are significant contributions in fostering an open, inclusive and prosperous society. Although gender inequalities are persistent in many countries, it’s imperative that new ways of addressing the issue are explored. Some of the means of solving the problem is by creating opportunities for a discourse that will spur the development policies that will benefit women. The relevant organs of the government and private sectors need to work in tandem to promote the chances of access to opportunities by girls and women. Therefore, some of the institutions that take the initiative to empower women, are the art exhibition centers. Their ability to attract a large gathering will enable emerging female artists to showcase their talent to a vast audience which in turn will expose them to potential investors that can promote their artistic work through financial assistance (Rentschler 667).The empowering of women artisans
The empowering of women artisans is vital because it contributes to the expansion of the current existing art centers. Previously, men had dominated the art show exhibition industry, and that might have explained the reason why there was no urgent need for the expansion of the art centers. The entry of women has seen the need to expand because the participation of female artists will benefit the community through their show exhibits and the charity fundraising events at the museums. Women groups have also organized themselves into groups that seek to raise funds through art exhibitions. The proceeds from the sale of art such as sculptures, educative wristbands and display of transformative plays that touch on emerging issues such as women and drugs, the marginalization of women and women in governance, is used in the expansion of community programmers. Moreover, they also use the proceeds to equip the needy girls in the society with skills and employment opportunities (Rentschler 669).The Curatorial exhibition of women
The Curatorial exhibition of women is vital in expanding the knowledge of the community about the vast nature of art and the opportunities that lie ahead for those seeking to pursue a career in art. Some artistic practices such as taking pictures and documenting them in studious and museums have played a significant role in creating awareness of the position of women in the society. The art photography has provided the opportunity for the exchange of visual images about the plight as well as the success of women by sharing the visual predicament of women in the society. It raises awareness among the relevant stakeholders who can come to their rescue and provide assistance. Likewise, when sharing visual images of the privileged and successful women in the society, it acts as a source inspiration to other women folks to strive to achieve and replicate that kind of success in their lives (Clegg et al. 310). Furthermore, giving girls the opportunity to influence gender debate through art photography will trigger a constructive debate that will prompt the government and international organizations such as the United Nations to redouble their efforts on women empowerment. The exhibition programs that seek to promote female participation
The exhibition programs that seek to promote female participation in the art of photography has covered so many constructive stories about women. Therefore, the art exhibitions will continue to enlighten the society about the contributions that women are actualizing in the world. Through art photography and video recording, there has been extensive coverage on women who do activism and are committed to transforming the society (Clegg 310). Some do volunteer work and face challenges in support of their communities and the country. Some face obstacles and challenging situations that only their strong will makes them resilient and continue with the kind work of charity. Such achievements need to be shared with the entire society. Thus, the only impactful and quick way of documenting and sharing such information is through art photography and video recording. After capturing the events of such programs, it's only prudent that something like an exhibition is organized to enable the female artists to compile and share the inspirational stories with the community (Clegg 310).Why am I the right person to curate this show, what is my experience?
My previous work experience at The Arts and Industries Building in Washington that provided custody of ancient assortment of natural history, art, and anthropology. Working as a curator in this institution gave me the opportunity to oversee the exhibition of pop and various art events. Therefore, a photography art exhibition would be an opportune moment for me to provide my previous skills and experiences and help set up a new and modern art center that will inspire the female artists in living and achieving their dreams. My attributes of being a careful and diligent overseer that enabled me to discharge my duties in my previous assignments while working for the art center will come in handy in the proposed exhibition hub. Not only I’m a stickler for time, but also a dedicated and staunch believer in teamwork. The success of the exhibition will depend on the level of early preparation injected towards the exercise, and I believe that I have the organizational leadership skills that are crucial in coordinating all the logistical issues surrounding the seamless execution of a project of such magnitude.Additionally, making arrangements for the display of photography and video recording art will attract a large number of female applicants expressing an interest to participate in the show. The anticipated high number of participants will necessitate a need to restrict the number of people who will showcase their photography skills during the exhibition. Therefore, to ensure that there will only be a lean group of female participants who will deliver quality art exhibition at the event, it will require robust skills of administering interviews and scouting good talent. Holding a bachelor’s degree in human resource management will give me an extra advantage assembling a ream that will bring their work of art for display at the exhibition center. Finally, my experience of working in a museum will also enable me to introduce different forms of artistic practices apart from art photography and video recording. With the capacity to assess the quality of other artwork such as sculpture, painting, and music, I will ensure a smooth execution of the exhibitions to the satisfaction of the organizations. That will also fulfill the expectations of the audience who will be curious to see the intrigues of different forms of artifacts present. How does the project relate to historical and contemporary exhibition histories?
The project finds vast relevance with the historical and contemporary accounts of art because it will seek to showcase the current events that take place in the society, ranging from the scientific inventions to the social work that people do to uplift the lives of the less fortunate. Historical exhibitions used to display the history of the world and the significant events that took place at that time, such as the world wars, the error of the empire rule among many more. The contemporary art mainly shows the emerging trends and vices in the community such as drug trafficking and abuse, the impact of terrorism. The paintings of the ancient world wars and the historical account of the survivors, the current influential world leaders, the heroic acts of brave people who seek to make the world a better place among many more. Therefore, the intention of the project of offering emerging women in art an opportunity to showcase their work shares many similarities with the historical and contemporary exhibition of art. The show will include art photography and video recording, molding of sculptures that convey a particular message regarding the current events, writing of short stories and poems, and the different dance and music performance.Participants
The main participants in the exhibition are female artists striving to make an impact in the field of art and most specifically, art photography and video recording. However, the event is open to other types of art such as sculpture, music, poetry among many more. The young girls who will attend the event will draw massive inspiration from the female participants who will be showcasing their artifacts of various issues in the society. Historically, women have suffered systemic and at times unintended marginalization due to the deeply entrenched patriarchal beliefs in the society (Haynes et al 203). Therefore, being part of the organizing committee for the planned event, there was a consensus that an affirmative action should be used in deciding the main participants of the exhibition. Although the move will disadvantage boys and men who are willing to take part, the organizers would like to take urge every aggrieved party to look at the decision in good light and see the benefits it will accord girls and women.Apart from the participants, the show will also have the audience who will come to see the different types of art and even get entertainment from the musician and poetry artists. There will also be curators and the support staff who will be assisting in the facilitation of the show and provide any needed support. Security officers will also be invited to attend the show because the provision of security in such an important event cannot be undermined. Further, the members of the press will also be invited to cover the show. The curatorial plans have anticipated the presence of dignitaries from government and the private sectors. Academic institutions such as Universities and colleges will send their representatives from the faculty of art to attend the event. They will be given an opportunity to make their remarks at the end of the ceremony and also offer some form of critic and word of encouragement on the future of the art industry in the region. What
The show is expected to have art photography and video recording, storytelling sculptures, artistic paintings that convey a given message, poetry and music. The organizing team is aware that the participants cannot easily access some of the works and equipment such as cameras and the devices for molding the sculptures and drawing the paints. Therefore, the organizers of the event will try and reach out to the established practitioners and museums to lend some of their equipment and materials to the participants for the facilitation of the activities which have been scheduled for the day.How
As the main stakeholder organizing the activities of the exhibition, I will ensure that invest resources in the publication of the event and also do sufficient public relation campaign to attract the participants, the audience and all those who will be in attendance. Ensuring quality work of art during the exhibition will elicit the excitement of the audience and get them more interested in attending. A considerable section of the audience will comprise students. The organizing team will, therefore, send invitation letters to heads of schools and institutions of higher learning. The exhibition will offer educative artistic sculptures that will convey vital information about the emerging issues and the historical marginalization of women. Besides, the art photography will provide educative materials on the gains that women have made regarding the empowerment of women and the programs they are running in the society.SpaceThe exhibition will take place in Sherborne Abbey. The choice of the location and venue is quite significant because it means a lot to me. I not only attended Sherborne International School but it helped make me the person that I am today. Probably, I would not have become the accomplished curator that I am today if I did not attend the school. Furthermore, the strong culture and tradition of artistic work at the school, make it a convenient place to hold the exhibition because they have a spacious hall and facilities. Therefore, the number of equipment that will have to be added will be reduced and that will also reduce the cost of holding the event.People will only be allowed into the exhibition center during the opening hours that is from 8 am to 4 pm. After the closing hours, the facility will be closed, and everyone is encouraged to leave the exhibition venue. At the commencement of business, the participants will be given a gate pass that is different from the ones issued to the audience and the dignitaries as well as members of the press. Everyone is encouraged to follow the schedule for the exhibition because people will be required to be present at all the events within a short period of notice.PR StoriesThe PR messages will convey a story of women empowerment. There will be social media and mainstream media adverts that will appeal to the youths to come out in large numbers and attend the event. The first event of a kind that is seeking to reverse the misfortunes that have bedeviled women by giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents in the field of art. The presence of potential investors should motivate every participant to organize the best piece of art that will catch the attention of the probable funders. The organizing committee has set aside a team of three people who will coordinate the online campaign and respond to the press on any issue they may want to find out in their coverage of the event.Budget- Shipment w/insurance: $500- Insurance on site: $400
