What parents can do to help their children with reading

At every learning stage, parents should make an effort to comprehend what subjects their children should be studying. The teacher and parent should always have a discussion to go over the child's progress. The child must have a conducive reading atmosphere at home, provided by the parents. Establish a study period for the child, and occasionally, at least once per week, sit with the child as he or she completes homework. This makes it possible for a parent to know what their child is working on and to determine whether the child requires extra assistance. Further, a parent can encourage their children to read them stories and assist them to pronounce difficult words this helps the child to develop good reading skills (Common core state standards initiative, 2016). Children can also be supported in a subject like mathematics and help them to solve some challenging calculations and word problems.

How parents can better assist their children by understanding common core standards.

The standards of education prescribe what students should know and be capable of doing in every subject at every level of teaching. Teachers, parents, and experts in the education field set these standards. They ensure that students succeed in their present and further studies. The standards prevent interference in the learning process in case a learner move from one institution to another or even into a different region (Understood, 2017). The standards are set to ensure that the students can compete with their peers all over the world. The common core standards state the learning expectations in English language, arts, and mathematics. The standards ensure the future success of students in colleges and their career. Parents must, therefore, be properly informed about these standards. This enables the parents to hold the teachers accountable in case they realize the education provided to their children is sub-standard. Parents can make use of the knowledge of the standards to assist their children in learning at home. With the rules, the parents can involve teachers and students in discussing and setting academic learning objectives. The parents are also enabled to make the right decision when purchasing learning materials for their children.

Changes in understanding of teaching scholars with disabilities

From the survey, we realize that each learner has different pathways of development. The moral, ethical, emotional, physical and social-interactive developments are part of the pathways. The teaching should be efficiently designed to coincide with the development stages since the steps influence the reception of instructions (California Department of Education, 2016). The learning environment should also be designed and organized to achieve multiple conditions in classrooms. Properly organized classes affect literary skills of learners. In assessing the student's both standardized and alternative assessments should be employed (Engage NY, 2017). The standardized help in testing the memory of the students while the alternative assists in developing analytical and critical skills. The learning process should be sensitive to any form of discrimination. For instance, in teaching literacy development there can be the use of, predictable texts, word puzzles and the words should be non-discriminative. There should be interventions to help the typical learners grasp the concepts as well as specific interventions for students with literacy-related problems.
