The Federal Communication Commission wants to regulate internet neutrality. A newspaper titled, “The Federal Communication Commission wants to let Telecoms cash in on the internet” was written by the Editorial board in New York Times to buttress this point.
Broadband Companies in Control of Content
Broadband companies are to choose what customers can watch and how much to pay for each content. This will prevent the companies from paying fees in the name of aspiring to deliver content efficiently. The proposal of the chairman clearly indicates that the telecom companies will now be allowed to sell basic internet. It may mean that there will be limited access to Google and email.
Disagreement with the Editorial
I disagree with what the author has decided to write in the editorial. I feel that it is not the best solution to let the broadband companies take full control of the internet offer. Additionally, it is shocking on how the communication company decided all of a sudden to pave room for the broadband companies to decide on what to offer and what not to offer on the internet.
Fortunate for Broadband Companies
To some extent, it is fortunate for the broadband companies since they will now be in a position of making investments in their businesses. Besides, the less crucial free internet will no longer exist, and hence people will have access to a faster internet that they will have paid for before use. For this reason, customers should not have any fear about further internet access. Besides, the broadband companies are now expected to be free with what they would like to do but again, they are not likely to take advantage of their customers over the internet.
The End of Neutrality
In summary, the Federal Communications Commission has decided to let go the neutrality of the net access offered by the broadband companies. The companies have been provided all the access and control over what they own. Besides, the companies are expected to use this chance to improve their services and make investments as well. Also, they are supposed not to take advantage of their customers now that they are the ones deciding what should be paid for and how much is to be waged.
