The Inspiring Story of Sue Barry
The story of Sue Barry to me is one of the most inspiring stories that have come across. Despite the fact that Sue Barry could only use one eye, she was so much determined in pursuing her education and studied one of the most coveted professions in the world. Being a neurosurgeon is not a walk in the park as it require a lot of self sacrifice, determination, endurance and willingness to push all the obstacles that comes along the way to the very end of the road.
Overcoming Disability
Despite being unable to view the world in a three-dimensional manner, she was able to read several works done by renowned scholars and from the books she got encouraged and came to learn so many things that even those who have stereopticon vision could not comprehend from these books. From the story of Barry, one can conclude that having a disability does not imply inability. The story gives a lot of inspiration and encouragement that even with a particular disability; an individual can still work and develop some of the most amazing achievements in life that leave behind stories that will be told for centuries to come. Another interesting lesson learned from the story of Sue Barry is that for us to get helped, we must first be willing to move out of our comfort zones and seek assistance from those who can help us just as Sue did by visiting an optometrist who treated her and restored back her sight.

It is also very clear from this story that stereopsis is better than using one eye at a time. This is evidenced when Barry after undergoing the treatment upon going back to her car, the steering wheel seemed popped out when she used one eye at a time but upon looking at it using the two eyes, it looked different.

Living a life such as the one led by Barry could have been very hectic because it needs one to strain a lot to make proper viewing of objects especially the tiny ones. Her profession as a neurosurgeon further complicates it as it requires extra high care especially when operating patients and this could be extremely difficult using one eye at a time to operate machines such as microscope when analyzing various biopsy in the laboratory.
The Pros and Cons of Using One Eye
Upon closing one eye and then viewing objects in the house, the eye that remains open cannot remain open for so long before getting tired, and the house looks blurred and requires a lot of light to see certain objects within the house. However, the use of one eye at times gives very accurate outcome such as when snipping or when an individual wants to put through a sewing thread through the sewing machine.
