The quality of a leader

A successful leader is someone who can influence the future, ensure that things happen, participate in new talent modification, create the next generation, and have the opportunity to invest in people (Brack, 2007). As a result, the idea of efficacy is based around the desire to learn from mistakes, successes, books, individuals, schools, tasks, and life itself and create methods to ensure progress. As a result of their love for their desires and values, people spend a lot of energy paying attention to various data. Effective leaders have the room to inspire goodwill and loyalty among the employees since they have the ability to act with trust and integrity among themselves. Consequently, they are able to adopt courageous and bold moves, as well as have confidence on dealing with situations that emerge and tolerating ambiguity. Such individuals should have the ability to communicate, delegate duties, and values of honesty, commitment, confidence, creativity, and good approach in all of their activities in the organization (Mcdonald, 2017). These are vital qualities since the followers look unto their leaders to determine what needs to be done and execute their duties and mandate. Therefore, the leader is the role model of the followers.
Application
In order to be effective, there will be a lot of learning and research on these qualities of leadership. Such will involve interacting with individuals who are known to be respectable leaders in society and assessing how they lead in their organization (Wolf & Robbins, 2015). Such will create room for understanding and experience of leadership and its application in society.
Some of these qualities are already established. On a personal level, there are high elements of integrity, honesty, responsibility, and passion to be a great leader (Wells et al., 2016). However, these have not yet being integrated in the area of leadership. Therefore, personal experience will be sort on how these qualities can be applied in the work environment to ensure organization success on the leadership process.
Decision making in leadership
Leaders, irrespective of their state and nature in society, they have to make decisions. Such decisions could affect the leaders themselves only or the entire group of people (Mcdonald, 2017). Thus, decision making is an integral part of the entire process of leadership on daily basis. Therefore, leaders have to focus on making responsible decisions so that they remain effective and relevant.
Different styles are adopted by leaders when it comes to making decisions. There are commanding leaders who make decisions without consulting others. Such a style is applicable in cases of crisis and monetary decisions when there is no time available that the leader can consult other members (Brack, 2007). A collaborative style involves engaging people in discussion of what is the best option or cause of action in relation to the prevailing problem. A consensus style involves having all the leaders get a vote on the decision at hand. The other style is convenience where leaders delegate on the decision making tasks.
Irrespective of the decision-making style, which is adopted by the leader, there is a need to have emotional intelligence on the part of the leader. Such includes understanding how to manage the different choices and uncertainty presented by the conflicting arguments in the decision-making process (Wolf & Robbins, 2015). Such should go along trusting personal intuition. Adherence on these contributes to making an individual an effective leader.
Application
Decision-making is a concept that will be applied to ensure that one is an effective leader. Such will entail using the different decision-making styles as they apply to the prevailing circumstances for the leadership (Wells et al., 2016). All leadership issues and aspects will be analyzed to establish the approach that needs to be adopted to make the right decision. Further, there will be engagement in different forums of leadership to learn and comprehend how the involved leaders make decisions, which are related to pertinent issues.
Human resource aspect in leadership
Leadership involves dealing with human beings. As such, a leader has to be sensitive to the needs and requirements of individuals within their natural environment. Thus, the leader should embrace the quality of effective communication (Adair, 2010). Such facilitates in ensuring that the leader has a chance of creating collaboration and interaction with all other people with a lot of ease with minor challenges. Good communication skills and the delivery of effective messages results in building the morale of the followers, as well as increasing their loyalty. There is also savings, which are obtained in the organization in terms of cost that could have been incurred to explain what was meant by the leader in a given situation.
Further, the leader should never stop learning about the dynamism of human beings in terms of their behavior, reaction, and attitude to different aspects of organization processes and activities (Mcdonald, 2017). Such should be coupled with the practice of ethical and values-based behavior, which depicts respect for humanity. The strategy will also ensure that followers will feel appreciated by the leadership of the person and focus on service delivery at their highest output level.
A leader should also be mindful of the metrics used in assessing the performance of the followers. Such includes adopting practices, which do not arouse conflict in the group (Wells et al., 2016). On the same note, it is paramount for the leader to think strategically on the decision-making and leadership styles to adopt and act accordingly.
Application
Being sensitive to human beings is a great facet of an effective leader. Personal strategy to improve on this aspect is to undertake a self-evaluation test to determine areas of competency in relation to responding to the quest of humanity in leadership (Adair, 2010). The test will help in identifying areas of weakness, which could contribute to the attainment or failure of success in delivering an effective leadership. Moreover, there will be intensive research conducted, which will assist in gathering knowledge and information on how to be positive on human service in society. The outcome of this is to ensure that there is great respect for all the followers. The move will also facilitate in ensuring that the followers will feel free to adhere to the directions delegated to them by the leader. They will also express a high level of confidence on the adopted leadership style.
Gender in leadership
In the organization, leaders bring a combination of different traits where some are more important as compared to others. Gender is a critical factor of consideration in leadership. The good thing is that men and women tend to have an agreement on the essence of the different traits of leadership (Wolf & Robbins, 2015). Thus, they depict equality on their perception of having leaders who are intelligent, honest, decisive, and organized. Traditionally, the society has given men the top priority of leadership in organization while women are ranked low in the ladder. However, effective leadership is genderless. Women have proved to be great leaders in a similar manner as the men.
Therefore, leaders should not depict any distinction between the role of men and women in the workplace. Such gender diversity is welcomed and respected and leads to creating confidence among employees that they will have the best leadership in the organization (Mcdonald, 2017). Furthermore, gender diversity ensures that the best ideas are placed on the table for discussion.
A strong balance of men and women in leadership helps in preventing the development of gender based conflict among the employees, which could negatively impact the functionality of the different activities of the organization (Wells et al., 2016). Nevertheless, there is a need to extend some respect to women who are expected to play their traditional roles as wives and mothers. Thus, an encouragement has to be provided to them to ensure that they engage in leadership while undertaking their community and social responsibilities in an effective manner.
Application
Gender is one factor, which employees can use to evaluate the performance output of a leader. Therefore, there will be a lot of research on the dynamism of balancing gender in leadership and the overall performance of the organization (Adair, 2010). Further, research will be undertaken to investigate how gender influences the decisions that people make in relation to leadership and the associated benefits and success levels. Moreover, there will be involvement with leaders from the opposite sex to examine how gender influences the different decisions, which are made by the leaders and the adopted leadership styles.
Action Plan
To become an effective leader, there will be extensive research on great mentors on leadership who will provide insights and information on leadership. There will also be a statement of the vision of leadership, which will be clarified to ensure that the adopted strategy achieves the desired success. Further, personal commitment in leadership will be expressed where the emotional intelligence will be build. Such will include learning from personal mistakes and treating other people in a right manner. Moreover, there will be practical exposure to different organizations where the leaders are known to be effective in their leadership. The aim is to gain insights on how they deliver their leadership philosophies and vision. Such will offer an opening environment to learn about leadership in a challenging organization.
There will also be a focus on learning about employee performance and providing detailed, voluntary, positive, and immediate feedback to the employees. Personal strengths on leadership will be evaluated, as well as examination of the weaknesses, which could limit individual execution of the mandate of being an effective leader (Brack, 2007). Such will entail identifying new knowledge and skills and apply the same in the area of leadership. Hence, coaching and mentoring will occur on how to execute the duties of a leader in an effective manner. This will entail learning about the interpersonal relationship, which contributes to the achievement of the desired success level in business environment.
