If someone were to inquire what my passion is, I would simply say technology. The ability to use one's imagination to develop a strategy or tool that helps improve, simplify, or reduce costs is what makes innovation so wonderful. Any concept that would appeal to the majority of people would be considered revolutionary technology. Steven Johnson discusses how the connective mind is favored by coincidence. (Johnson, n.d). I have always supported the free and open-source approach to sharing information and tools. My community is one in which people hardly meet to talk about issues, especially those that revolve around innovation. On many occasions, only few people have a keen interest in knowledge-sharing that will make them call people to a common place to talk about. The 21st century benefits from groups of individuals who exchanged ideas without being afraid of intellectual property breaches. Many of those that have benefitted the world are those that were open-sourced to the world, thus allowing for endless modifications by different people with the goal of coming up with the best and most useful applications.
I would like to start a knowledge-sharing hub in my community that will enable people to have conversations on important ideas. It is important to me because it will enable quicker development through collaboration. Johnson, in his TED talk, gives an example of how a hobbyist side project led to the invention of the GPS system. It was made possible through co-working, which I believe, will help to spur development in my community. In order to implement this idea, I will need to conduct proper research on the impact of knowledge-sharing hubs in various communities.
