Over the past decades, schizophrenia has affected approximately 21 million people across the world, but few realize what the leading causes, symptoms, and diagnosis are. Schizophrenia is characterized as a severe mental disorder in which people are not able to differentiate the reality of life to abnormality (Weinberger " Harrison (2010). In most cases, schizophrenia combines hallucinations and delusions that impairs the daily functioning of an individual, which can be disabling. However, despite the existence of this disorder for several years, few people have not been able to realize the main causes, symptoms and probable treatment that may help save the situation. It is evident that people who have schizophrenia require lifelong treatment. Early diagnosis of this disorder helps gets the symptoms in control, therefore; reducing severe complications. This research seeks to create a clear understanding of schizophrenia as a mental disorder, the causes and symptoms, and treatment for the people suffering from it to bring greater meaning and purpose in their life.
In addition to treating or medicating schizophrenic people so that they can live a more productive life, the study helps students to gain exposure to the nature of psychiatric disorder as revealed by the scientific method. Further, it helps in getting findings from both psychological and biological related to the disease and its history.
Schizophrenia as a topic proves to be significant not only to the scholars but to nurses, social workers and mental health professionals who want to gain scientific literature on schizophrenia as well as the emergence of the disease. This is essential in the creation of awareness to more people who are yet to recognize and understand this disorder. Further, several types of research have been made by scholars, regarding this topic but still, the gap exists for further studies and investigations. In 2011, Kaewprom, Curtis " Deane, carried research on “Factors involved in recovery from schizophrenia.” Also, other researches have been done regarding cognitive functions associated with schizophrenia among others. All studies, are aimed at bringing new understanding to this disorder among people.
