Gerald Graff and Cathy view intellectualism as a common issue that hasn't been acknowledged in most academic institutions of learning in the framework of the "Hidden Intellectualism." The authors categorically point out similarities between the characteristics of scholastic achievers and those of students who are very smart in real life. They contend that a student's intellectual environment shouldn't be determined by scholastic failure. Even though the majority of people believe that getting high grades in academics is a true reflection of intellectualism, having quality argument skills is also a show of high level of intellectualism of an individual. I totally agree with the author regarding their statutes. According to me, it is very true that intellectualism is not only a show of academic brilliance but also a show of effective response to demands in our communities such as proper argument skills. In addition, academic brilliance is just a common element in examining our cognitive capabilities in the society. Therefore, it is also ideal to use sports and talents to show intellectualism at the expense of academics. Physically, the body can be trained to respond the sporting abilities, the same way the mind is trained to score in exams. This way, some people might object the call for non-academic as an illustration of intellectualism.
The Comprehensive Context of Intellectualism
Concisely, intellectualism is a comprehensive context of human understanding that should encompass all aspects of performance in our societies. Both sports and talents display elements of intellectualism.
