Stressful Life Circumstances

People react differently to situations and circumstances that tend to nudge them from their comfort zones. Therefore, as Greenberg (2006) stated a life situation is whereby an individual is overwhelmed by a situation, and they need to straighten or gain the balance of their circumstances. However, in life situations is best to acknowledge that different conditions draw different reactions from individuals. Greenberg (2006) continues to state that some life situations are perceived as stressful signifying the intensity of emotions associated with specific occurrences. The distressing life circumstances cause emotions arousal such feelings like sadness, inadequacy, frustrations, or vulnerability resulting to a particular event as being stressful. The emotions lead towards psychological arousal that attributes to interference in the effectiveness of the immune system and effects the organs processes such as heartbeats and blood pressure. If not contained, psychological arousal causes illness and poor performance both mentally and emotionally. Finally, the consequences of prolonged stress makes an individual to adapt to the situations and acknowledge his/her environment. During the consequences phase, there is more questions and concerns about the possible results of a particular event, but it is critical to note that people will react differently.

Greenberg (2006) stated that some individuals had acquired the ability to set up roadblocks when undergoing a stressful event. The roadblocks are perceived as a defense mechanism and are acknowledged as an intervention technique. Therefore, they are conceptualized to block any stressful consequence, and they are set at specific points in the stressful theory model. The roadblocks assist in hampering the repercussions from manifesting. The roadblocks can be in the form of prescribed medications (sedatives and tranquilizers) or an affirmation of viewing a situation with some positivity. Therefore, the confirmation can be accrued through integrating relaxation techniques that will suppress emotional reactions. The purpose will not be to eradicate all the stress but rather to minimize the stress amount present in our lives.

While an individual has a great job that has flexible working hours and handsome compensation. However, during a retrenchment, the said individual is eliminated from the job because of the economic strain. The purchasing power for the individual declines because of the high inflation rates. The situation becomes stressful and shattering because of concerns about survival on food and rent. However, an individual can choose to manoeuvre and look for another job or give up.
