Science and Anthropology:  Epistemological Questions

Significant progress has been made in recent years in the examination of knowledge's meaning and practical applications. This is because our ability to make crucial judgments that affect other people's lives depends on our level of information. Hunt (2003) asserts that knowledge is a crucial skill that people should have since it can be used to create plans and implement strategies to make sure that objectives are met. The way that information is applied in daily activities varies from person to person, which causes its interpretation to vary. This is the main reason why one may understand and make a conclusion in a different way from another person.
An example of an issue which has experienced different interpretation and biased conclusion is that everyone who is obese is eating a lot of food. This has been a sensitive issue as it has an effect on self-esteem. It makes one feel insecure over an issue which might not be within control. This might not be true and could be classified as a fallacy of composition. This is because as much obesity is caused by eating a lot of food does not mean that everyone obese eats a lot of food. There could be other reasons for example lack of physical exercises or medical reasons. Also this may be an appeal to popularity. This is because many people may be of the opinion that obese people eat a lot of food yet they may not have looked into each individual case. This may be a biased opinion because people are experiencing different situations. Another reason this may be a biased opinion is because it could be an argument based on ignorance. One might not know if there could be other reasons hence using ignorance to make a biased decision.
It is therefore important to carefully look into the various underlying issues so as to evaluate the issues. This will enable one to make an informed decision which is free from bias.
Applying Anthropological Knowledge
Over the years the need to create a better environment has been a priority. Changing the world to making it a better place for everyone is such an important task that ways to achieve it must be well thought out and developed. According to Podolefsky (2008), the first and best point to begin the transformation process would be looking into the social environment as this has a big effect. This is because an analysis and understanding of issues and problems in the social setup will bring about transformation on people's lives. This could be done in three ways namely basic research, applied research and development. The three methods aim at creating new content, keeping people informed, solving problems and improving people's lives.
Consideration of anthropology is vital because it assist foster good social environment. It encourages people to interest more with each other. It is a key component in assisting helps solve problems encountered in the social environment by providing a scientific approach in coming up with solutions. This is one of the key advantages of anthropology because it aims at solving all the social problems that arise in a scientific manner, providing a fresh and clearer perspective. Not only does anthropology provide a solution, it goes even further to ensure that the solution provided achieved the set goal and solved the problem.
Careful research, data collection, analysis must be done so as to be well equipped with necessary skills and information in solving the problems. Also one needs to do as much practice as possible so as to be able to handle various problems well. Anthropologists should therefore be able to reach out to the various needy location, communities and areas with an aim of providing a scientific solution to social problems.
