How did the music influence the storytelling in this production? Was it effective in your opinion? Why/Why not?
The music in the production made me glued to the film. I loved the messages in the songs. They were personal and communicated the past romantic lives of the actors-Irglova and Hansard. Yes. The music was very effective and made me learn a lot about the present situations of the actors. The music was also very beautiful and softened the hearts of both Hansard and Irglova. It is the reason they gave their love lives a second chance. However, sometimes I felt like the music was too much and could easily be boring if someone is not a music fan.
How can we accurately critique a theatrical production if we don’t like the play?
Once must be objective and start by watching the whole production. They should then outline what they loved about the theatrical production and what they disliked about it. From the facts, they can determine whether it was an excellent or a less exciting production.
Why do you think the playwright chose Dublin, Ireland as the setting for the show?
Well, the first reason would be that the movie featured an Irish girl who lived with her Irish mom and daughter. Secondly, the writer and director of the movie-John Carney, was Irish. It came naturally to him to film the production within a familiar context rather than unfamiliar territories.
