Indeed, the proliferation of social media has transformed many aspects of the society
The advent of networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Myspace have significantly reshaped the way people relate and interact. Interactions between people have been redefined and resulted in social isolation. In the workplace, the networking sites have created an ethical dilemma and led to the loss of worker productivity. As such, the impact of social media depict to be detrimental, and it affects the wider spectrum of social life such as education, organizations, and personal relations. This paper aims at establishing the negative impact that networking sites have on the society. My research question is worth pursuing further as it will help in finding out how social media affects personal lives, workplace, and school life as well as enumerate how the sites lead to the development of narcissism behavior.
Negative Impact of Social Media
Interestingly, the easiness that comes with the accessibility to the social media through the electronic devices like laptops, phones, and tablets entwine the society in a way that would later culminate into fundamental problems. In developing the research question, preliminary reach was done on the general topic of social media in periodicals and journals which helped to narrow down the topic. From the preliminary research, a focus was given to the questions that early researchers had raised. After selecting the topic, the negative impact of social media on the society, the topic was evaluated to ensure that it is clear, focused and specific as well as concise and arguable.
The study will object at finding out how social media has significantly triggered problems in marriages and many other personal relationships. The world is witnessing the detrimental impacts of the social media through the continued divorces that come as a result of the social media. This evidences the manner in which the social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook have led to challenges of interpersonal relationship. The fact that the use of the networking sites has critically weakened the bonds of face-face interaction and made people loose virtual reality with themselves is an issue to be investigated. This study is also motivated by the idea that addiction on social media creates a moral panic and leads to negative behavioral and physical impacts. Networking sites have resulted in severe addiction challenges, and this affects especially the young people. Notably, a growing attachment to phones and laptops as well as tablets deeply engrosses numerous teenagers into a state of addiction, and this has thus created a devastating moral panic. Notably, this addiction has culminated into negative physical and behavioral impacts. Hence, the ways in which the networking sites ignite a moral issue in the society will be examined.
The adverse impact that social media has on the organizations is also a significant concern. Evidently, problems relating to the corporate invasion of privacy are rampant in the modern society, and this is fueled by social networking sites. This aspect will also be investigated. Another interest will be to establish the impact of social media in the workplace. In the modern world, many employees do not stick to their code of ethics and waste a lot of time on the social sites. Employees heavily engage in networking while at work and this impacts on their productivity level. Also, some of them use the equipment at work such as laptops and computers to log into their accounts like Facebook. Hence, the impact of social media on worker productivity is an issue worth investigating.
The effect of social media on news reporting and in education are also areas of interest. It can also be agreed that social media has affected the news media landscapes in a number of ways including misinformation and propagation of fake news. The popularity of social networking sites has increased, and its negative impact on university and college education cannot be left unrecognized. Twitter, Facebook along with other networking sites have become raging platforms for every student in these institutions causing detrimental effects on their performance. Again, social networking narcissism is on the rise among teenagers, and this will also be studied. The proliferation of social networking platforms has culminated to cultural, social and civil changes and heavily impacted on the young people. A significant problem encountered in developing the research question was establishing the scope of the research. The topic was one that appeals to my passion and the one I am interested in. Also, identifying the research gap and developing an arguable thesis was also a significant problem.
Conclusion
The use of networking sites complicates the society and interfere with everyday tasks. The next step in this study will involve collection of information. Here, questionnaires will be formulated which will address all the interest areas of the research. The questionnaires will be presented to a wide range of audience including students, parents, teachers and even organization. Besides, interviews will be carried out with students, teachers, works, and parents as a way of collecting information. When the process of data collection is over, the information will be compiled for analysis.
