Almost everyone has become aware of racism. The issue of race has been used as a socially constructed defense mechanism for how people interpret concepts and unfamiliar features. (Harris). Where the word is used determines how race is defined. It's interesting to note that the definition of white has evolved over time to include more people of various races, including Italians, Jews, and Irish. Racism has been around for a very long time. (Harris). Over time, the problem deteriorated into one that made it difficult for people to engage with one another because of racial profiling. Racism and prejudice were the core ideas in which people would follow without many thoughts on the effect that such differences affected the society.
Contemporary racism is the one identified in the text whereby the common idea of racism comes from how one is brought up (Jaffe). The ideas that are instilled in one’s head tend to stick. The elders become the core of every child’s thoughts as such it becomes difficult to have definite opinions about race as a child. However, the choice of following the upbringing ideas as an adult all depends on the individual. Some adults are still racial subjective whereas others have believed on the issue of being one regardless of race (Jaffe). Media can also be regarded as one of the major ways that define how one thinks about race.
Racial segregation happens to be the worst experience one can face mostly when one is not identified to belong from the same race as the attackers. Racial segregation in schools has always existed as such policies in schools have lacked the proper mechanism to combat the issue first hand. Children are being subjected to words that seem to over glorify ones’ race than the other. However, teachers have been asked to be more diligent about their pupils where they ensure that children do not racially segregate each other.
Identifying and being conversant with two languages rather than knowing one has an advantage to it. The world is globalizing more each day (Bhattacharjee). Scientists have identified the benefits of bilingualism. Rather than having the ability to converse with many people is that one turns to be smarter as the scientist determined. It has increased the cognitive area of the brain even doing more like ensuring dementia does not strike while one is old. How people view bilingualism is entirely different from how people can gain the traits needed to be a bilingual (Bhattacharjee). The scientists have gone further and identified that a bilingual brain could resolve different conflict internally.
A survey identified that racial equality remains to be a part of working process at work. The statistics shows that one in three blacks has made progress on achieving a proper racial equality (Roberts). At work, the blacks and whites agree that they move along well however that tends not to be the case as identified in the news magazine (Roberts). When one compared the same statistics five years ago, it is more evident that proper steps have been made. People have seen the progress that has happened though they want more predicting a brighter future for racial equality at work.
