Climate Cairo: Temperature, Climate graph, Climate table for Cairo

To finish this milestone assignment, imagine that you are transferring from your current location to a new region of the globe, but this time you will concentrate your emphasis to a specific city or portion of a country inside the new region that you have chosen. For more details on this scenario, see the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric page. These responses will serve as your speaker notes while you deliver your final presentation. In this milestone, you will also submit a draft of your final project presentation slides, including resources on the last slide.

Prompt: Do the following steps for this assignment:

Review the Milestone Two Rubric at the end of this worksheet.

Download this document and complete the worksheet below, addressing questions related to the location, region significance, global significance, interactions, and movement of your new city or area within your new region.

For your draft of the final project presentation slides, you should include a slide (or slides) that address each element of the final project presentation requirements and include a draft transcript of your speaker notes. It is important that your presentation and speaker notes are organized in such a manner that between the two, it is clear to your instructor that you have sufficiently covered each element required for the final project. Your last presentation slide should be a reference list of at least five sources that support your final project using current APA style guidelines.

Tip: Consider copying your speaker notes into your presentation where appropriate, so that you can view the interplay between any images, bullets, or titles you are using and cue yourself to the speaker notes, which are the core of how you are graded. Do not forget to include the speaker notes you have from Milestone One, upon which you received feedback from your instructor.

Once you have completed the worksheet, upload your saved worksheet file along with a draft of your final project presentation slides and submit this milestone assignment to Blackboard.

Note: Refer to your module resources and the Themes of Geography resource, as well as additional resources you identify, for information to help you answer the questions below. Remember that you will need to have at least five sources in current APA style for your citations and references list in the final project submission. Note that each question of your worksheet has you track your citations. This is so you will not need to go back and figure out where you grabbed a resource from when you submit your final slides. You will be able to use these worksheets to copy and paste your citation list into your last slide. In some instances, you may have used the same resource more than once, which is why your list may be as small as five resources.

Part I: Location

In this section you will narrow your focus to a particular city or area of a country within your region and describe its location, regional significance, and global significance.

Identify a city or area of a country within your new region:

Cairo

Location: Describe the absolute and relative location of your city or area within your new region. Support your description with current examples in 2 to 3 sentences. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.

Optional: Include a map to illustrate your written description.

Note: The box will expand to accommodate your image.

Absolute location of the city of Cairo is as follows: 30° 2' N, 31° 14' E (World Atlas, n.d.).

Relative location of the city of Cairo is as follows: Cairo is located in Africa, particularly in the northern part of Egypt. It is situated to the southeast of Alexandria and to the northeast of Giza.

Regional Significance: What is the geographic significance of the area of your country or city’s location within the region? Your 2- to 3-sentence response should be based on the application of geographic concepts to your region as needed. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines.

Cairo (the capital city of the country of Egypt) is closely located to the River Nile, which is, in reality, a factor that has greatly fueled the region’s agricultural development. The city of Cairo relies greatly on the agriculture for the economic support, and it is the Nile river that has been providing the irrigation water to the farmlands (El-Ramady, El-Marsafawy, & Lewis, 2013; Nijman, Muller, Blij, 2015). Most of the time, the food production exceeds the population of the city necessity and is hence used for the numerous economic purposes.

Global Significance: What is the geographic significance of this area of your country or city’s location globally? You should base your input on the application of geographic concepts to your region. Write 2 to 3 sentences. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.

The city of Cairo is a global transportation node; it is, as a result, an aspect, which, in turn, manifests itself in the form of the Port Said and the Suez ports as well as the Suez Canal (Lithwick & Gradus, 2000). It is via this significant control over international trade routes, Cairo, and hence, the whole country of Egypt maintains a significant role in the global economy of the world.

Part II: Connectivity

In this section, discuss connections between your new region and other world regions, as well as connections between your new region and you personally.

Interactions: How does your city or area of a country within your new global region interact regionally and globally with other regions? In other words, describe how your region interacts with others, both within the country and abroad. In your response you could consider economic, cultural, and physical interactions. Your response should be based on the application of geographic concepts of your region, and should be 5 to 6 sentences in length. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.

Economic interactions of the city of Cairo are described as follows. Cairo is an agricultural city. As a result, it exports some of its agricultural produce to the other regions. In addition, the city is a regional and a global transportation node, which, in turn, gives it much control over the trade routes (Lithwick & Gradus, 2000). As a result, the city of Cairo gains a significant role to play in the global economy of the world.

Cultural interactions of the city of Cairo are considered as follows. Cairo serves as an important center for the Islamic religion. It hosts the numerous religious landmarks such as, for instance, the Al Azhar University. The Al Azhar University is one of the most respected and the oldest institutions of the Islamic education in the entire world (Muslim Heritage, n.d.).

Physical interactions of the city of Cairo are shown as follows. Cairo is physically connected to the other parts of the world through the roads, the air travel and even the water ways. The Suez Canal, for instance, provides the shortest maritime path between the lands around the Indian and the western Pacific Oceans as well as creating a connection with the countries of European mainland.

Movement: What connects you personally to this new location, causing you to relocate? For instance, are there any current geopolitical, environmental, cultural, or economic events or issues that connect you to your new region? Support your statement with current global or regional examples and make sure to reference the reason you are relocating in 5 to 6 sentences. Include citations for your resources using APA style guidelines as needed.

One of the aspects that have significantly impacted me to relocate to the city of Cairo is its great climate. Its summers are warm, and winters are not cold, but rather wet (Climate-Data.org, n.d.). As it is evidenced, the climate is not extreme and is rather tolerable to practically everyone. Additionally, Cairo boasts some of the greatest architectural pieces that are represented in the view of museums in the entire world. For instance, one can recall the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, and the Al-Azhar Mosque just to mention a few. Lastly, in Cairo, the style of living is rather inexpensive, and the people that dwell there are very kind. Having an accommodation is quite affordable as well, and so is the price for the food. These factors, in turn, make the life in the city of Cairo rather cheap.
