The Singapore Summit
The Singapore Summit, which was between the leaders of the United States of America and North Korea, took place on the 12th of June 2018. The meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un has received different reactions in America and also around the world. There have been some speculations from media personalities and other United States citizens expecting President Trump to fail at the Singapore Summit (Joshua Berlinger, CNN).
Expectations and Opposition
According to Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce, there has been so much hate and opposition towards President Trump to the extent that people were expecting that he would fail to bring Kim Jong Un to the table. Tammy Bruce stated that most American citizens have a personal loathing for Trump and the dislike is intensified with the fact that he is faithful to his campaign promises. According to Bruce, there is a complete difference between being a little bit skeptical about the Singapore summit and cheering for failure. After all, the president’s success should be celebrated and encouraged as it benefits the whole United States ("Tammy Bruce: Mainstream Media Is 'Cheering' for Trump to Fail at Singapore Summit").
The Objective of the Summit
The Singapore summit was about two world leaders combining effort to establish a long-lasting peace regime along the Korean Peninsula and also it was a step to ensure that the Korean Peninsula is completely denuclearized. According to President Trump, the signed document had a vision of the Asian geopolitical landscape which would eventually make sure that there is a less military presence in North Korea. President Trump also said that the United States government would make efforts to end the joint US-South Korean military exercises. Trump also promised to withdraw the United States military from the Korean Peninsula (Joshua Berlinger, CNN). The Singapore Summit was about a peace agreement; it should, therefore, be a win for all Americans, some of who chose to cheer for the Trump’s failure.
