A Christmas Story

For my major this year, I decided to watch A Christmas Story: The Musical which was held in the grand theatre. The play is adapted from the perennial holiday movie starring Raphie parker who is a young bespectacled young man who schemes for a holiday gift of his dreams. In this play, the role of the old man is acted out by John vessels who is a common actor in the regional stages in areas such as Indianapolis and Louisville. The role of Raphie is played by Finn O Hara from Ohio. Watching the play was entertaining to the entire audience having followed the original music while incorporating new delights.

The background of the play is based on a story of Ralphie Parker who in this case is Finn O Hara who wishes to have a Red Ryder carbine action gun. However, he faces the problem of convincing his parents and other people who could be interested in helping him. He only has one month to convoke all the people that he is in need of the gift. In course of the month, he proceeds to juggle friends, bullies, the school at large and even the infamous leg lamp. Watching the play makes the audience smile, laugh and support Raphie in course of the play.

One of the interesting concepts about the play is the choice of the cast. The connection in the cast is effective resulting in close coordination.  The role of the narrator is conducted effectively through an eloquent persona who carries over the play from the first scene to the last.  Additionally, the characterization also plays a major role in keeping the audience excited I the course of the play. In the play, although O Hara is not as good as Raphie, he executes the role effectively. He demonstrates vocal abilities which make the audience to anticipate getting the progress of the rest of the play.

The character of the mother is also played by a character who demonstrates gentle kindness and at the same time has a beautiful voice all which plays a major role in the play.  The role of Raphies short-tempered father is also demonstrated by an individual with impressive vocals. Additionally, this character also amusing and has the capacity of enacting a comedic treat which has an overall effect in entertaining the audience. Apart from these characters the kids in the play also play the designated roles effectively.  For instance, Raphies brother is appealing in that he has both singing and dancing capabilities. Finally, the role of miss shields is also effectively executed with the characters effectively bringing out their best abilities in the song You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out”. In this regard, the children’s ensemble is effectively utilized the children’s ensemble.

The production of the play is in coordination with the original sets, and costumes. Indeed the set consists of several rolling pieces and an appropriate arrangement. Also, the stage consists of well-arranged props as well as proper costuming.  Indeed watching the entire play was delightful and provides an opportunity for families to enjoy the Christmas time.  Some of the factors that facilitate the excitement in the play include factors such as incorporation of young actors, stage veterans as well as new crafts in the play that brings about the convincing factor. The combination of the factors brings about the factors such as appropriate timing and overall vivacity of which brings about the transformation factor.

Watching the play arouses the holiday spirit with the entire cast presented in their costumes, the country dancers, dance hall girls and parents in settler clothes.  Apart from the cast, the costuming of the play is also effective with various items such as fringed vest and chaps and belts. Additionally, the adult characters incorporate various qualities that facilitate the excitement in the play.  Other factors that contribute to making the play interesting is the adult characters who are endowed with voices both in acting and in songs. At some point in the play, the old man enacts emotions particularly when he receives a major award. Here, the father who works hard for the family is obsessed with the crossword puzzle and finally wins a prize identified as the leg lamp. He creates excitement in the rest of the audience admonishing the recognition.

Watching the play proves to be exciting for both an individual and for a family audience. Indeed some of the scenes of the play are hysterical and provides musical fun to the audience.  The excitement of play is derived from the clever costumes, props and talented cast. Still, the enjoyment is coupled with the heartwarming message that is brought out through the final lines of the play. In this regard, comparing to the fuss that goes on during Christmas period the message is not all the materialism that matters rather it is the family and the people around an individual who are most significant
