“White Like Me” - An Anti-Racist Film Exposing Racism in the United States
“White Like Me” is an anti-racist film featuring Tim Wise. The theme of the film is to bring forward the matter of racism in the United States. Despite being a white and growing in comfortable places, Tim Wise explains how the United States has become a victim of racism and how he hates it. African-Americans were captured before the civil war to fight and were later sold as slaves. However, it is very unfortunate that racism is still a topic of discussion. This is an emotional film, especially if you observe how African-Americans are tortured and neglected in public places (Wise).
The Impact of Racism on the Entire Nation
Although viewers may sympathize with blacks in this film, the movie acts as an inspiration to nations that still practice racism. It goes to an extent of connecting racism to politics and expresses a concern on how racism can affect the entire nation, including whites. Even after Obama was elected as the first black president of the US, some people went forward to criticize him by photoshopping his picture to look like an African witch doctor and printing it on billboards. I like the theme in the film because it clearly points out that racism can not only affect the blacks but the entire nation (Wise).
Blacks: Struggles, Contributions, and Unity
The film demonstrates how blacks have struggled to make the US great. For example, President Barack Obama introduced Obamacare to ensure the provision of cheap and available medical services and insurance cover to all people. I like the part where the film clearly demonstrates that blacks do not hate despite being put in compromising situations by whites. “White Like Me” is a masterpiece that enlightens people to understand that all people play important roles in the development of a nation, and the United States will never reject African Americans. They all need to work in peace to ensure a united nation.
