Virtually everyone has come into contact with a teacher
at some point in their lives, whether as a child or later in life. The teaching profession is one of those that has a significant impact on our lives, particularly our careers. In reality, because of the time we spent with them and the trust we place in them, most instructors rank second only to our parents.
The teaching profession is diverse
ranging from early childhood educators through university professors. There is also a broad range of subjects that teachers can teach. Early in life, one teacher can teach a whole class because at that stage of life, the student is often learning how to read and write. Teachers at this level are generally not specialized and can teach sciences, art, mathematics and vocabulary among others because the most important thing at this level is to have the young learners understand to read and write.
As one progresses
the teachers become a bit more specialized in broad subjects. Here, teachers specialize in physics, biology, mathematics, geography and civics among others. By the time that one attends college or university for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the teachers are so specialized that a field life International Relations has been broken down to hundreds of areas of specialization with some teachers teaching diplomacy, others international law and others international economics among a host of other subjects. At this level, most of the teachers are either doctors or professors.
Does it now make sense why teachers are almost our second pair or parents?
Perhaps yes. We spend a good portion of our live and they shape our careers, how we understand the world and how to interpret facts.
