The Theme of Escape from Tomorrow

Disney World

Disney World has a theme park which is located in California. Disney is a magic park that aims at bringing joy and entertainment to people of all ages. Many people visit Disneyland to get refreshed and also interact with each other. Moore, the author of the play, portrays Jim as having childhood dreams that are complicated. The theme park stimulates children to encounter many aspirations. It also has grown-ups that seem to exercise irresponsible childhood behaviors.

Randy Moore and Jim's Nightmare

Randy Moore has vividly shown how the gentle world of Walt Disney acts on the individuals who want to escape from the hardships of real life. Jim who is the main character in the film experiences a nightmare at the park in Disneyland (Hoffman 58). Jim decided to have a family vacation by visiting the park so that he could entertain himself, his wife, and children. During the final day of vacation, he realizes that his job had been terminated. Jim does not reveal the sad news to his wife Emily regarding lose of the job (Zornado 75). His children continue to enjoy at the park, but Jim seems to be confused and full of thoughts. However, the whole situation is a paradox because Jim is stressed, but he does not want to interfere with the comfort of his family as well as that of other people at Disneyland.

Jim's Deteriorating Marriage and Troublesome Vacation

The state of Jim moves from bad to worse when he is seen eying two girls who had a French origin. His marriage deteriorates especially after the uncouth behavior of lusting for the young ladies at the park yet he was engaged to Emily. Furthermore, Jim’s son causes much trouble when he vomited in the park and messed up the place. Emily also gets puzzled with the state of events and ends up by slapping hard her daughter. Their daughter tripped and fell a situation that made her knee to be skinned (Hoffman 58). The vacation at the theme park is filled with suspense. The case of Jim's family becomes contrary as compared to other families who seemed to be enjoying.

Other Characters and Humor in the Play

There are other characters in the film Escape from Tomorrow who conduct vital roles hence bringing humor in the play. For example, there is a nurse that likes weeping most of the time. When the nurse saw Jim and his daughter who had a bleeding knee, she starts to cry since she realizes that things are not okay for Jim (Hoffman 58). The other character is the creeper who was in the motorist seat. The creeper ran into Jim when he was cleaning his bloody hands in the washroom (Zornado 75). The act of collision indicated that things were not well on Jim's side. However, the whole scene suggests that Disney aimed at safeguarding a better place on Earth which would not disturb people from enjoying whatever they were doing.

Summary

Summarily, the play portrays a society that has people who tend to escape their future roles by getting involved in other activities. The film has contradicting facts that Jim is experiencing. Furthermore, the play has paradox as it shows how Jim is visiting the park to avoid the responsibilities of the real life yet he encounter worse things in a place where people entertain their families. Jim is disturbed because he does not avoid the problems he intends to escape.
