The Search for The Absolute in Ernest Hemingway's "A Clean Well Lighted Place" and "The Snows Of Kilimanjaro"

Bluefarb, S. (1971). The Search for the Absolute in Hemingway's" A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" and" The Snows of Kilimanjaro". The Bulletin of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association, 25(1), 3-9.

According to Bluefarb, the short story by Hemingway's was targeting popular consumption as there is the use of third-person narration that helps give the readers different perspectives. Moreover, the characters are a young waiter and an old man which reflects the different perspectives people in the society hold. The story was documented as a movie in 2008, and it brings out the artistic writing style by Earnest Hemingway which is evident in most of his pieces. In particular, the old man in the story gets a perfect description of how he led a sad life, but the story takes a turn in the end.  The old man puts sufficient effort to show how much he is discontent with almost everything. It is important to note that he believes that other people ought to feel like he does. For this reason, Hemingway’s succeeds in explaining the experiences people go through their lives through the adverse effect the emptiness of those close to them has. Thus, it is apparent that there is a high likelihood that where people end up is dependent on the manner in which they perceive the world. Besides, it is a well-lit room that brings about the difference between happiness and desperation.
