Inclusivity in the Entertainment Industry
Inclusivity in the entertainment industry remains a critical subject because of the importance of this sector. Patterns from recent past years have shown that there is a complete lack of just representation in the movie and entertainment industry in general. The levels of invisibility of the diverse nature of people who require representation are alarming. The USC Annenberg contain many surprising statistics in their report, but in my view, most of the findings from the report are confirmations of what I have always assumed about the entertainment industry.
Likelihood of Females Being Sexualized
One of the findings that surprised me from the report was the fact that the likelihood of females being sexualized was very high. The broadcast, cable and streaming media were all affected with this act, the film being the least affected. The impacts of any forms of sexualization are a bit clear because of their adverse nature.
Gender Disparity in Film Directors
The other surprising data is that only 3.4% of females are film directors. It means that in every 5.6 male film directors you find only one woman. It is a tiny percentage suggesting that there is the existence of a very high gender disparity whose solution would be to give the women an opportunity to showcase their talent in directing films. The discrepancy between male and female screenwriters is also too high.
Challenges and Advantages of Being an International Student
Being an international student comes with its share of challenges, but the advantages are many too. The fact that I am not a native challenges me to ensure that as a producer I should try my best and balance the diversity in the media platform.
Conclusion
There is an existing tendency of lack of inclusivity in the entertainment industry. Females rarely get to top positions even in well-established corporations. People of colour often face exclusion from taking part in crucial entertainment roles.
