Today, people are either influenced by their insights, relatives or friends regarding specific steps to take in life. However, it reaches a time when individuals disobey the advice of others and, instead, stick to their opinions. In 2017, I refused to follow the advice of my parents concerning the religious practices which they were following. According to my insights, religion was hogwash and false illusion that people followed blindly. Despite my guardian’s efforts of manipulating my thoughts, I became more rebellious and eventually started engaging in actions that were opposite to their expectations of me.
The first factor which influenced me to make my rebellious decision on worship was the peer pressure. By then, most of my associates did not acknowledge the teachings of the church. Secondly, some of the philosophical lessons in the school which question about the existence of a supreme being changed my attitude in religion. Lastly, some of the leaders at the church committed minor offenses, hence making me lose trust in religion and also developing a defiant stand.
While reflecting on cultural belief issue in light of Weaver and Tan, it becomes evident that the cultural voices in the society have influenced my life by enlightening me. Through the cultural teachings, I have realized that respecting each other creates mutual co-existence among individuals. Similarly, my life has been influenced after knowing that being obedient prevents people from falling into problems.
