The use of internet has made remarkable changes in the field of sociology. For instance, the internet has revolutionized the collection and analysis of research data. Numerous technological applications allow the sociologists in gathering desired data (Balakrishnan " Gan, 2016). Additionally, social media facilitate interactions between the researchers and research study subjects through various platforms. For example, electronic polls rely on the recruitment of participant through the use of specific platforms such as Facebook, Twitter. Moreover, internet and social media have minimized the need for researchers to travel far and wide to carry out a study in various part of the world.
Larger Society
The world has undergone a tremendous transformation since the advent of technology. Social media and internet have made the world to be a global village as globalization intensifies. Majority of individuals continue to enjoy the connection with other people from different parts of the globe (Balakrishnan " Gan, 2016). Moreover, business activities have also increased remarkably through the creation of a virtual environment using social media and various aspects of the internet.
Individual Level
At the personal level, the internet has had both negative and positive impacts. For example, the internet makes it easier for students to conduct research work, thus, improving their understanding in the study of sociology. Secondly, web and social media allow learners to share information among themselves (Balakrishnan " Gan, 2016). However, in some cases, students using social media such as Facebook excessively tend to experience withdrawal symptoms and loneliness. Furthermore, most students lack attention in class as they are engrossed in different social media platforms.
