The Evolution of Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Coaching and Cognitive Behavior Coaching

Coaching is one of the most complicated fields, and it requires coaching professionals to combine both physical and psychological aspects to achieve the desired outcomes. In reading Gladeana McMahon’s work, I was able to find a number of new points that I can apply in my future coaching practice.

Cognitive Behavior Coaching (CBC)

One such point is the different aspects of Cognitive Behavior Coaching (CBC). Through this work, the historical background of CBC is analyzed thus providing readers with a pool of evidence on how this branch of psychology has evolved over the years and its application in the day to day life (McMahon, 2009). The second aspect that I learned from the work is the different roles of a coach and the different outcomes that should be expected. These teachings will enhance my practice as from them I understand the development of cognitive psychology and how it has evolved (McMahon, 2009). Additionally, I understand my roles as a coach and thus will be able to structure my practice perfectly to achieve the desired outcomes.

Building Effective Coaching Relationships

Coaches strive to build an effective relationship between them and their clients. After reading the work, I got the skills and the knowledge necessary to establish, develop and maintain good relations. The article provides me with a roadmap to building an effective coaching relationship and also an alliance (Neenan, " Palmer, 2013). Therefore, it is evident that after reading the article, I will be able to build and align the interrelated features in relationship and alliance establishment (Spry, 2015). In this way, there will be a mutual understanding between my clients and I as their coach. Additionally, I will be able to achieve the desired outcomes as I will be able to develop mediating goals that will help me to achieve the final objectives. Finally, I will be able to deal with problems when they occur and thus avoiding disintegration of the alliance evolves. The study of cognitive behavior helps me to understand the use of interpersonal skills being able to solve disputes between coach and coachees during practice.
