Similarities of BLM/ NFL Protests to the Civil Rights Movements

Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) in America is associated with the constant push that is a result of black activism which can also be related to the NFL protests by African American players. The activities of BLM have raised the question of where the tendency stands regarding the understanding of Civil Rights Movement which is connected with disapprovals that was created by the group demanding for equal opportunities in housing, employment, and education alongside the eradication of discrimination against the population with black skin (Sebastian; Anderson). The undertakings are similar to the NFL and BLM because of the call for fairness in the manner in which the police treat African Americans based on the spike in shootings and the right for due process.

Difference between BLM/ NFL Protests and the Civil Rights Movements

Despite the similarity in the BLM and NFL demonstrations with the Civil Rights Movement, several factors provide a contrast. The latter was spread across the nation, and everyone was aware of the rights being championed by the group with a notable structure of leadership causing the charge (Anderson). However, the same does not apply to BLM and NFL protests where the procedures are on a local level, and there is little awareness regarding the dissents. Additionally, BLM and NFL differ due to the lack of recognition on a national stage and the absence of a scheme as well as a reputable figure leading the group like in the case of MLK in the 1960s during the Civil Rights Movement (Perez).

Significance of the Difference and Similarities

Of course, the similarities and differences are significant to me. The reasoning behind the choice is established on the effectiveness of the actions by BLM and NFL. Civil Rights Movement was able to achieve goals such as the passage of fundamental laws keeping an eye on the perception and inclusion associated with the protests (Perez). The likeness is also vital since it lays the basis for the identification of a need for change in the society, especially in the field of the rights of people. The difference has a prominent role as it can facilitate in predicting the ability of BLM’s and NFL’s future growth through alertness (Perez).
