Reinforcement and Punishment

Speed driving is one of the common behaviors among young drivers. A report by Constantinou et al.  (2011) reveals that speeding is common among young adults in the society. Although most of them engage in speed driving out of naivety, there is the need for the society to look at ways of changing how the young people drive cars. Safe driving will reduce road carnages that have become common with the society. With an ideal program, young drivers can engage in a responsible form of driving.

Explanation on why the problem exists

Among young drivers, the tendency to drive ion high speed is as a result of many reasons. One of the factors that make young people drive at high speed is because of curiosity.  Most young drivers are first-time car owners (Machin " Sankey, 2008). As such, these drivers get overwhelmed by the excitement to drive their cars at a speed which is outlawed.  Excitement is an issue that should be handled by young drivers because this is a threat to the lives of many drivers.

Program

The program recognizes operant conditioning as one of the approaches that stakeholders can use to instill a safe driving culture for youthful drivers. Under this program, the concepts of reinforcement and punishment as espoused in operant conditioning will be adopted.  Regarding reinforcement, the program will use both negative and positive approaches. On the part of reinforcement, this program will partner with lending institutions. The assumption in this program is that most of the young drivers buy their cars with loans. Therefore, with details regarding   As such, under this initiative, the focus is to address matters that relate to promote safe driving and at the same time punish those that appear not to be ready to deviate from speed driving. What this means is that in the program there is the need to adopt both punitive and supportive measures. This program aims to support excellent driving skills. As such, what the initiative will focus on is rewarding young drivers who portray safe driving tendencies. Under this arrangement, the young drivers who will be found to engage in safe driving, the program recommends that they will be a waiver on their car loans. On the other hand, for those that do not observe safe driving, their loans get doubled. However, under this strategy, the program suggests that young drivers who are found to flout safe driving rules continuously then punishments such as jail are the ones that will be applied.

Shaping

In shaping the character of these drivers, the program indicates that for young drivers that observe safe driving they get the chance for a waiver. The loans of youthful car loans get reduced when they perceive safe driving. However, this program recognizes that there are these individuals who might violate safe driving rules because of other manageable issues. As such, people of such character are exposed to punitive measures that involve the police. Under this initiative, the police and officials from lending institutions will be involved.

The success of the Program

The success of this program is hinged on the aspect of financial rewards for young drivers. The initiative is likely to achieve because most of the young people own cars through loans and as such, with waiver proposals, they are likely to follow this program. What this program realizes is that most of the young drivers are not financially independent and as a result, they will abide by the suggestions because of the desire to waive their loans.
