Impact of Reality Shows on British Culture
Those who watch reality shows have a huge impact on them because they can link to other cultures advanced by the shows to their real lives and physical appearance. In the British context, the culture of the youth as a result of watching reality shows appears to be deteriorating their values and growth, as evidenced by the 2000's Big Brother against the 2017 Bromans show. Big Brother demonstrates advancements for a monitoring system that reveals real-life issues among celebrities and how to overcome obstacles (West 2016). On the other hand, Bromans is explosive and degrading in the way they present the Roman Empire where eight men act as gladiators with the support of their girlfriends (Dehnart 2017). In this regard, the essay entails how the latter has degraded the British culture and development in comparison to the big brother, as the evolution of reality TV shows.
Isolation and Counseling in Big Brother
The Big Brother contestants from the different ethnic background are isolated in a house without access to any form of media such as television, radio, and internet (West 2016). The program producer of the Big Brother provides command and directives on the contestants, and there are some private counseling done by through the mobile phones in the diary room (West 2016). In this regard, though the show as a representation of reality TV in 10-15 years ago provided a chance for the youth to relate real-life challenges and get counsel as a voice or reason towards how to avoid the mistake hence developed the culture (Imre 2011, 103; Perse and Lambe 2017, 54). However, in the case of Bromans, the reality series is more degrading especially in advancing its nudity of the acting-like gladiators, which has many inaccuracies in history (Dehnart 2017). The characters are comfortable casting their privates, and this indicates that in the 21st century, it is not immoral. Therefore, it does not address life challenges nor does it give lessons from history that can advance the development of culture among the youth today.
Degrading Actions in Bromans
The degradation is evident through the actions of the TVs former real gladiator trainer, Doctore, through advancements of themes of sexism, racism, and misogyny. Doctore is introduced as a sex object through making the men strip on their first arrival, and command the girlfriend to dig in the sand in search for the new attire that leaves most of the body parts nude (Heritage 2017). Besides, the ideology that the two losers lead to wearing of a female innerwear displays a culture that is ridiculous but discomforting as it erodes ideals of the society in the British youth culture (Davies 2017). The nature of the training further presents a discriminative Language especially against other races and their capability of strength. Lastly, Doctore is avid in the contempt and prejudice against women through the demeaning them as unequal to the male contestants, which is a case of misogyny (Heritage 2017). If the youth borrow the discrimination of women as unequal, then this would derail the developments in the British culture in regards to equality of gender.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the concept in Bromans can be funny and engaging to the youth, however, as compared to the big brother show, it degrades the British culture as well as its development. The show unlike big brother that offers to counsel to contestants about real-life challenges, Bromans especially through is lead character advances sexism through the display of nudity, discriminative language against other races as well as the female gender. Therefore, the evolution culture as presented in the reality TV shows should be concerned about the nature of the message conveyed across since it has a significant impact on the lives of young people, who constitute most of the audience.
