Issel & Wells (2017) provide that the primary goal of healthy people 2020 initiative high quality, longer lives completely free from preventable diseases, injuries as well as premature deaths. Issel & Wells (2017) further highlight that the initiative intends to eliminate disparities between health care in different regions and improve relations between the various health groups. Healthy People 2020 also have objectives that are structured to achieve the goals.

According to Issel & Wells (2017), Healthy People 2020 initiative has several purposes stipulated in an approach that covers Economic stability, education, and sensitization, neighborhood and builds environment as well as the provision of guidance in social and community context. Objectives, as stipulated under the economic activity, intended to improve the quality of life by eradicating poverty.
The education and sensitization objective, on the other hand, means to ensure proper patient, professional ratio by championing training (Bolin et al., 2015). Bolin et al. (2015) also highlight the increased sensitization within a community on healthy living. Neighborhood and build environment is defined to reduce the level of violence and pollution within the surrounding. Guidance is also established under the Healthy People 2020 initiative with the intention of increasing population need to increase positive communication between family members.
