Healthcare practitioners and stakeholders: Ensuring the Health of All Americans
Healthcare practitioners and stakeholders are working to ensure the health of all Americans, young and old, as part of the Healthy People program. Breastfeeding and high blood pressure are the two key health problems addressed in this assessment.
The Goal of the Healthy People Initiative in 2009: Promoting Breastfeeding
The goal of the Healthy People initiative in 2009 was to ensure that everyone was involved in promoting breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has several documented benefits for both children and moms, according to the Breastfeeding Report Card - United States, 2009. (CDC, 2009). This report card enables nurses to inform Americans about their breastfeeding methods, track progress, and identify areas for improvement.
The Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee: Hypertension Prevention and Treatment
Meanwhile, the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure provides an evidence-based methodology for hypertension prevention and treatment. The report identifies that the most-at-risk population to develop cardiovascular disease are the older generation (DHHS, 2004). Practicing nurses promote healthy lifestyle modifications and treatment options to avert the progression of HBP and CVD.
Utilizing the Articles to Meet Targeted Goals
Both articles could meet the targeted people. The Breastfeeding Report Card – United States, 2009 could be used to promote good maternity practices, such as exclusive breastfeeding up to 3 or 6 months and infant nutrition. More so, it could facilitate professional support, development of infrastructure, and the creation of laws to mandate and protect breastfeeding for babies. Meanwhile, the DHHS (2004) report could be used to endorse proper treatment and management for high-risk HBV conditions. More so, it encourages the need to ensure that nurses remain trustworthy and competent during therapy and/or care to enhance patient motivation and satisfaction.
Responsible Judgment for Healthcare Practitioners
Overall, both articles demonstrate that responsible judgment is paramount for healthcare practitioners. That way, nurses and physicians' decision-making will improve the health of the younger and older generations alike, thereby achieving the objectives of the Healthy People 2020.
