Explain the major management challenges in developing international information systems. Describe the three steps of a management strategy. Are there any disadvantages?
Managers experience a wide range of challenges while developing international information systems. Firstly, initiating changes in the process of the organization is one of the main challenges because individuals tend to resist new processes and changes. Secondly, challenges emerge while coordinating releases of software because of various processes involved in business (Martin 23). Similarly, the manager face problems while attempting to coordinate development of applications and inspiring local users to back global systems.
In order to deal with these challenges, managers need to choose a change strategy, which is evolutionary, and realist in order to demonstrate the international information system is practical and feasible. Moreover, the manager should engage the stakeholders in the change and particularly those that are directly affected by the changes (Martin 23). Importantly, the process of introducing the information system should be conducted methodically and slowly which can be very essential in supporting introduction of the new systems. The disadvantage of this managerial strategy is that it may take quite a long duration before implementation processes are completed (Laudon and Laudon, 34).
Describe the main technical issues facing global systems. Which one do you consider the most important? Explain your reason(s)
Global systems face a number of technical issues, which include systems integration and computing platforms, connectivity and software localization. Integration of computing systems and platforms is challenging because having all structures suites working together through similarly operating systems and hardware is difficult to achieve and does not ascertain integration (Martin 23). Moreover, connectivity problems exist because most people are unable to connect in at a particular period. In so doing, connectivity challenges hamper the ability of the people to transmit images, phone calls and information. Finally, when the software does not comply with the needs and wants of the local people it affects the sustainability. Software localization is the biggest technical problem because it may fail to meet the needs of the local people in terms of design of the user interface and schemes of the colours (Laudon and Laudon, 34). Therefore, it becomes challenging to master and understand affecting the consistency of providing data.
