I agree with Johnson’s criticisms of Shakespeare’s work of art. It is very true that Shakespeare in the first place has been able to employ different stylistic devices to drive his main ideas home. However, there are times he used methods that could be needed expertise to understand. The expertise is what Johnson highlights. I believe it is true.
‘Bard’ as a word has lost its meaning. However, the redemption of the Bard of Avon as highlighted by Johnson is very important. It directly points back to William Shakespeare. Johnson makes it clear that he the name is given with regards to Shakespeare’s stature as a great poet during his time. The word Brad as mentioned in the beginning might have lost meaning. However, it can be used ironically to refer to a person who is a friend or a local.
His contribution to Johnson is the economic success of the series of dramas performed by Shakespeare during his time. Johnson is different from other critiques. He dwells on the faults of the play other that eulogizing the poet. As a result, he gives a greater impact on the success of the work as said earlier.
