LAN Topologies and Networking Recommendations

When setting up a network

There are various factors to consider. The considerations will always make it simple to find the ideal location for the project. The intended network topology is chosen after determining the location. The availability of the appropriate network hardware is one of the most important things to consider. There must also be significant technological improvement in this place, as well as the presence of the necessary technical skills and technical professionals to complete the task and basic diagnostics (Lowe 56). The area must be able to support smooth information flow and must have a growing economy that will be good for the business needs of the organization. Based on all these considerations, the perfect location is Washington, DC. This location is as good as New York City. However, there already is a site located in New York City making Washington the ultimate choice. Washington, DC has good research facilities and technicians who have the best technical know-how to implement the topology chosen.

LAN Topology

There are two main network topologies, which can be implemented for this project. The topologies are Tree Network Topology and Hybrid Network Topology. For tree network topology, there is a root node that will enable a hierarchical connection. It will allow group connection, especially since the organization has its work depends on group contributions. It is also ideal since it supports a wide area network connection which allows for connection to other workstations in the other cities. Tree topology also has other advantages like easy maintenance, a possibility of node expansion as well as easy error detection. It, however, has one main setback; in the case of a failure in the central hub, the entire operation will be halted; this cannot be good for the organization's operations (Held 67).

A Hybrid Network Topology is one of the topologies that can be considered for the project. It is a combination of more than one topologies working together to achieve a high functionality. Since it is a combination of more topologies, it inherits the advantages of these topologies. As a result, the error detection in this topology is very high and easy. Its size can be increased easily since it is highly scalable. It is also flexible, a factor that makes it the best for consideration. It has an advantage over tree topology in that, the nodes function independently, and therefore a failure in the central hub does not affect operations in the organization's network system (Oppenheimer 81).

Conclusion

In conclusion, a hybrid topology should be considered and used in the new offices which are to be located in Washington, DC. The reason being, it will ensure that the workflow has not interfered with; it will also ensure that the huge workload is well managed and also will allow employees to connect to the head office easily and even work from the comfort of their houses.
