KYEG Multimedia Project

Kamburu Youth Empowerment Group (KYEG) is a community based group committed to uplifting the socio-economic status of youths and children in its target localities. KYEG is base in Kamuchege Location in Lari County. Started in 2016, KYEG has had spectacular success in organizing charitable events and Talent shows in the locality in less than two years of existence (Smith, 2011). KYEG hopes to inspire a generation of Youths and children who are confident out to strive to become the best they can ever be. We believe that every dream is valid no matter how much dreamers have to stretch their imagination to envision it.

The objectives of the group include:

To give the youth in the locality a common voice in matters that affect their lives and shape their future.

To form an investment structure(s) that will enable youths invest in various parts of the economy.

To sensitize youths about available economic opportunities and fast track their access to funding including the youth fund, the county fund, international donors and other funding organizations.

To provides opportunities for the development of talent including singing, dancing, acting, sports, public speaking, comedy and other talents.

To give back to the community through philanthropic activities including tree planting, visiting the needy and the elderly and cleanup activities.

To provide a safe and responsible environment where youths can have fun, interact and develop each other.

Project Background

KYEG as a group is engaged with youths of all ages including school children to graduates. KYEG has identified certain problems that affect talent development for all youths (Smith, 2011). Among the problems noted include:

Lack of a platform where youth can showcase talents.

Lack of local content like comedies, dramas, songs and spoken word among youths in the locality.

Lack of opportunities for youths to have fun responsibly.

We believe that the future stars of the entertainment industry are here in our localities. We believe that we can start our own entertainment content where  our gifted models, musicians, MCs, dancers and public speakers will be featured. KYEG Multimedia projects aims to stimulate the production of local content starting with skits, poems, dance routines and spoken word before movie into music and movie recording.

Who are we?

A 2010 study by the Uwenzo; then contracted by the Ministry of Education revealed worrying details about the level of literacy in the Kenyan Primary school system.  The report among other thing said that most KCPE graduates cannot comfortably read storybooks meant for class two pupils. The KYEG Book club is an idea mooted to improve literacy among primary school students in the Kamuchege, Kamburu Ward, Gatamaiyu and Githunguri localities. The program will be implemented by volunteers drawn from Kamuchege Youth Empowerment Group and other youths drawn from the locality.

Target: The program targets class 7-8 students in the before mentioned localities.
